
Checkers to recognize CMS "Teacher of the Year" nominees Saturday night

(Charlotte, NC - Monday, March 22) The Charlotte Checkers are pleased to announce that they will be honoring the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools "Teacher of the Year" nominees at their home game this Saturday, March 27 at Cricket Arena at 7:30 p.m. when they'll host the Columbia Inferno. The 127 "Teacher of the Year" nominees will receive a special acknowledgement in a pre-game ceremony at this Saturday's game. The announcement is made today by Checkers' President, Jeff Longo.
The Checkers are also inviting all CMS teachers, employees and their families to the game in support of the nominees, and are offering a special ticket offer all those desiring to attend. Further information can be obtained by calling the Checkers office at (704) 342-4423.
"We are very pleased to honor the CMS "Teacher of the Year" nominees this Saturday," remarked Longo. "These teachers have all gone above and beyond their normal responsibilities and reflected important qualities to their students including character, integrity and perseverance. We want to recognize these individuals for the important impact they have played in the lives of their students, and encourage all those associated with CMS to be with us this Saturday to show their support for the nominees."
The Checkers will be hosting three big home games this week at Cricket Arena. Wednesday Charlotte will host the Florida Everblades at 7:00 p.m. in an important Southern Division contest that will have playoff implications. Wednesday' s game is the final game for season ticket holders to exchange their unused tickets. Friday, March 26 the Checkers will be hosting the Florence Pride at 7:30 p.m. The first 5,000 fans entering the arena will received a free, full color Checkers Team Photo compliments of Circle K. On Saturday the Checkers will give away another 5,000 Team Photos, compliments of Circle K, and will honor the CMS "Teacher of the Year" nominees. Saturday's game is also "Fan Appreciation Night" as the Checkers will thank their fans for another season of tremendous support. Lucky fans will also receive special prizes at the Checkers final regular season home game.
The Checkers / New York Rangers style jersey "online auction" will also continue through this Saturday, March 27. Fans can log on to the Checkers web site at www.gocheckers.com. and click on the auction link to place their bids on the jerseys of their favorite Checkers' players.
