Texas Wildcatters News Release
Beaumont, TX (March 22, 2004) â The Texas Wildcatters ended the week 0-3 despite making late-game rallies in all three. Moved back a day due to the Hilary Duff concert, the Wildcatters hosted the Pensacola Ice Pilots Thursday night. Martin Masa provided the only goal for the Wildcatters in the 2-1 defeat. Cory Morgan and Lukas Smital assisted on Masa's 20th goal of the season. Davis Parley suffered the loss despite making 40 saves.
Saturday, the Nextel Cup returned to Ford Arena for a pair of games against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The Sea Wolves weathered a Wildcatters rally and scored two late goals to win 5-3. Despite being down 3-0 after one period of play, the Wildcatters came out strong in the second period as they out-shot the Sea Wolves 18-2 and picked up two goals in the process. Smital and Chris Taliercio cut Mississippi's lead to one with one period to play. The Wildcatters kept the pressure on the Sea Wolves in the third period as John Snowden tied the game at three with a power play goal at the 13:48 mark of the final period. But Mississippi came right back with two goals in a span of 17 seconds to hold off the Wildcatters.
Sunday marked Game 14 of the 15-game Nextel Cup series. The Sea Wolves defeated Texas 3-2 after holding off another late rally by the Wildcatters. The score was knotted at one after two periods of play as John Campbell struck first for the Wildcatters. Ryan Fultz and John Snowden assisted on Campbell's sixth goal of the year. Down 3-1 in the final period, the Wildcatters tried once again to spark a comeback. Snowden took a slapshot from just inside the blue line to record his 20th goal of the year. Morgan and Smital assisted on the power-play goal. However, the Wildcatters were unable to get the equalizer and fell to 2-11-1 against the Sea Wolves this season.
