Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

TRENTON, New Jersey - The Cincinnati Cyclones used the number twelve to their full benefit Saturday night in a 2-1 win against the Trenton Devils. Dustin Sproat's twelfth goal of the season with 4:03 to play gave the Cyclones their twelfth comeback win of the season. The triumph pushed Cincinnati twelve games above .500 for the first time this season.

Trenton opened the scoring 9:02 into the first period when Eric Castonguay netted his 22nd goal of the season from the top of the right circle during a power play. The Devils worked the puck across the perimeter off the left halfwall, as Ryan Gunderson and Matt Cohen had the assists. The Cyclones leveled the scores at one apiece when rookie Mark Van Guilder netted his 22nd goal of the season. Barret Ehgoetz chased the puck down in the right corner and centered it near the goal crease for Matt Syroczynski, who tipped it to Van Guilder at the left side goal post and slammed it in. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 14-5, in the opening term.

There was no scoring in the second period as a tightly contested defensive battle ensued. The Cyclones once again won the shots on goal battle in the period, 11-9.

Dustin Sproat's twelfth goal of the season proved to be the difference as he tipped in a shot from rookie Chris D'Alvise. Sproat was crashing the net from the top of the goal crease when D'Alvise's shot on the right wing side arrived and the rookie re-directed it into the left side of the net for the game winner. The shots on goal were even at eight apiece in the third period and Cincinnati won the shots battle for the night, 33-22.

Loic Lacasse took the victory, his ninth of the season by stopping 21 shots. Charlie Effinger absorbed the defeat. The Miami Redhawk product stopped 13 shots in taking his tenth loss of the season. Cincinnati was zero-for-four on the power play, while Trenton was one-for-two with the extra man.

With the win, the Cyclones take sole possession of first place in the North Division (77 points). The Cyclones have seven games remaining in the season.

The Cyclones are now 36-24-5 on the season, while Trenton is 34-25-6. The Cyclones finish off the weekend series in Trenton on Sunday with a 4pm clash (www.cycloneshockey.com carries the game). The club returns to U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, April 1 for a 7:30pm tilt with Johnstown.
