Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, N.J. -- The Trenton Devils suffered another heart-breaking defeat at the hands of the Cincinnati Cyclones Saturday night, as they fell 2-1.

Midway through the first period, Eric Castonguay extended his point streak to six games with a power play goal, a blast from the far circle. Ryan Gunderson recorded the primary assist, his 49th assist of the season, setting a new Trenton record.

Late in the period, the Cyclones gained momentum. With under four minutes remaining, Mark Van Guilder got Cincinnati on the board with his 22nd goal of the season, as Cincinnati was able to take advantage of sloppy play in Trenton's defensive zone. The period closed with Cincinnati out shooting the Devils 13-5.

At the 7:20 mark of the second period, Gerald Coleman was pulled from the game after taking a knock in the crease, pressing Charlie Effinger into duty.

Gerald Coleman returned to the bench in the third, but that is where he would remain for the rest of the game. He watched on as Charlie Effinger and the Devils fought off the surging Cyclones and an aggressive Cincinnati power play half-way through the third.

With 4:03 remaining in regulation, the Cyclones once again scored late against the Devils to seal the deal. Dustin Sproat deflected a shot over the shoulder of Effinger, giving Sproat his 12th goal of the season.

Effinger performed well in a relief role for the Devils, making 14 saves in a losing cause. It marked the fourth time this season in which the Devils lost to the Cyclones at home after holding a lead.

The Devils will have a re-match against the Cyclones Sunday afternoon, with the puck drop scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available by logging on to the Devils' official website, www.trentondevils.com.
