Elmira Haunted by 16 Chief Power Plays

Elmira, NY- For the second night in a row an overtime session would be needed to decide a winner between the Johnstown Chiefs and Elmira Jackals. Like last night, Johnstown walked out of First Arena as the victor, this time 5-4 was the final. Michael Teslak faced 47 shots in the contest, most of which were on Johnstown power plays. The Chiefs ended the night with a 16-5 power play advantage.

The Jackals opened the scoring 11:44 into the first period. In his first game as a pro, Bear Trapp went cross bar and in off of a pass from Craig Switzer. Brendan Connolly also assisted on the power play tally. Johnstown countered with an Andrew Sarauer tally one minute later. The Jackals found themselves on a five on three disadvantage at the 14:54 mark. Paul McIlveen and Wes Cunningham answered. McIlveen spun away from a Trevor Hendrikx hit, fired a shot on goal that rebounded to Wes Cunningham, Cunningham then put a perfect pass back to McIlveen who riffled home his 18th of the season. The Jackals finished the period with their second power play tally of the period. Bear Trapp sniped Keserich with the help of Paul McIlveen and Colton Yellow Horn.

The Jackals picked up in the second period right were they left off in the first with a Nathan Lutz goal 1:03 in. Chris Korchinski and Chaz Johnson assisted on the Lutz Blast from the top of the circle that beat Keserich high blocker. Johnstown brought he game to 4-2 at the 9:44 mark with a Toby LaFrance tally. The Jackals ended the second period with a 4-2 advantage but trailed in the shot category 31-26.

In the third period the Jackals were called for nine minor penalties and saw a 15-3 shot disadvantage fired their way. Johnstown netted their third of the night 1:41 in with a Mike Knight power play tally. The Chiefs then tied the game at 4-4 with a Peter Pohl tally at 10:49. Just like last night an overtime period was needed.

Elmira started the extra frame on a five on three disadvantage for 23 seconds. The Jackals killed off the initial power play but couldn't hold the Chiefs back on the remaining 1:20. Johnstown's Ryan Garlock beat Michael Teslak 0:42 into the overtime period for the win.

With the loss the Jackals fall to 34-24-1-5 while the Chiefs improve to 36-25-4-0.
