
Hay's four points lead the way as Idaho routs Victoria

Victoria, BC- The Idaho Steelheads (38-22-4) tied a season-high with seven goals in their 7-1 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings (35-25-7) in front of 6,314 fans at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. Darrell Hay tied a Steelheads individual season-high with four points in the win.
The Steelheads scored the lone goal in the first period at the 18:21 mark; it was Marty Flichel's 15th of the season on a one-timer. Darrell Hay and Brandon Svendsen assisted on the goal.
The Steelheads found their groove in the first half of the second period, scoring three goals in the first 8:02. At 2:08 of the first period, Adam Welch scored his first professional goal; assisting on the goal was Matt Cook, who earned his first professional point, and Ben Nelson. Less than four minutes later, Adam's cousin Dan Welch scored his fourth of the season, assisted by Trevor Ludwig and Hay. At 8:02, Brandon Svendsen scored his second goal, assisted by Travis Wight and Tyler Shelast. Shelast made his return to the lineup after being reassigned by Dallas from Hamilton.
In the third period, the onslaught continued from a Steelheads team that was blanked the night before. Darrell Hay scored on the power play from Matt McKnight and Garett Bembridge at 2:05, and Bryan McGregor scored the final two goals of the game; one of which was on a penalty shot, to put the Steelheads up 7-1. The lone Victoria goal came courtesy of Sean Landolt with the Salmon Kings on the penalty kill.
Rejean Beauchemin improves to 15-10-3 on the season; he stopped 28 of 29 shots in the game. Julien Ellis stopped 27 of 34 for Victoria; his record falls to 9-8-4 with the loss.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow at 2:05 Mountain Time.
