Bombers Lose In OT 5-4 Against Gwinnett

TROY, OH -- The Dayton Bombers can't hold onto a third period lead and end up losing to Gwinnett Gladiators 5-4 in overtime.

Dayton fell behind 2-0 in the first 3:40 of the game on Gwinnett goals by Andy Brandt and Pat Bateman. The Bombers would close the gap on a Matt Auffrey goal at 10:28 with assists to Les Reaney and Andrew Fournier. It was 2-1 after one.

The Bombers took the lead in the second on goals by Greg Labenski in his 300th game as a Bomber (a power play marker at 15:14 assisted by Nino Musitelli and Jarret Lukin) and Jim Henkemeyer at 15:58 (with assists to Reaney and Justin Chwedoruk). Dayton led 3-2 after two.

In the third, goals by Pat Bateman at 14:59 and Adam Berti (a shorthanded goal at 16:23) gave the lead to the Gladiators. Matt Auffrey's second goal of the game at 17:16 on a power play (assisted by Kelly Perrault and Fournier) sent the game into overtime.

Gwinnett's Scott Marchesi wins it on a power play goal with less than 29 seconds left in the extra period for the 5-4 final.

The same two teams go at it Sunday night at 5 p.m. at Hobart Arena. The game can be heard on the B2 Networks. After the game, the Troy Bruins throwback jersey's worn by the Bombers at Hobart Arena will be auctioned off for charity.
