Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

STOCKTON, California - When push came to shove Friday night, the Cincinnati Cyclones shoved hardest in a 6-2 win over the Stockton Thunder. Jean-Michel Daoust's pair of third period goals led the way in the win. Solid goaltending from Dov Grumet-Morris provided 34 saves in the triumph.

Prior to this evening's game, the Cyclones had allowed six power play goals in the last two games. Stockton had twelve opportunities, but could only cash in twice.

The Stockton Thunder are in their second season in California, after having been in Atlantic City and Birmingham. The Thunder were originally born as the Cincinnati Cyclones back in 1990-91 and compiled a 73-44-15 record in two seasons of play in the Queen City before moving to the International Hockey League (IHL) prior to the 1992-93 season.

Stockton opened the scoring when defenseman Jason Beckett hammered home a power play score, his third goal of the season at 14:20, with Stephan Goulet adding the assist. The Cyclones answered when Travis Lisabeth lit the lamp for the 16th time this year at 16:28 with a power play goal from Scott Reynolds and Mike Wirll. Rookie Matt Rogers gave Cincinnati the lead when he drilled his second goal of the season at 18:48, as Reynolds and Matt Macdonald added the helpers.

In the second period, Stockton received seven power play chances, but the Cyclones netted the lone goal. At 14:57 Jason Deitsch split the Thunder defense on a breakaway and played a backhanded shot past Cam Ellsworth for his 23rd goal of the season. Matt Macdonald's cross ice pass from the left side found the open Deitsch to give the Cyclones a two-goal edge. By virtue of the seven power play opportunities, Stockton outshot Cincinnati, 13-3, in the frame.

In the third, Barret Ehgoetz collected his tenth goal at 2:57, with captain Chad Starling adding the assist. Daoust picked up the first of his two goals at 5:16, with Ehgoetz and Avery Wilson adding the assists. Daoust's second of the night, and 25th of the campaign, at 7:20, with Deitsch and Greg Gallagher adding the helpers. Stockton scored the final goal at 15:46, as Beau Geisler netted his sixth of the year

The win snapped a two game losing streak for the Cyclones and was the club's first-ever in the state of California.

The Cyclones are now 29-21-2-2, leaders of the North Division lead by three points over Toledo. Stockton is 24-19-5-5 and is in fourth place in the Pacific Division. The Cyclones battle Stockton again Saturday night (March 3) at 10:30pm. The club returns to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, March 9 against Dayton at 7:30pm.
