Florida Everblades News Release

AUGUSTA, GA -The Florida Everblades (35-17-2) suffered their first loss of the season to the Augusta Lynx (31-23-3), after falling 2-1 on Friday night at James Brown Arena in front of a crowd of 3,449. The Lynx earned their first win in seven tried against the Everblades thanks in large part to goaltender Dave McKee who turned away 26 of 27 shots.

After an entertaining, but scoreless first period that featured each team firing nine shots on goal, the Lynx broke through with a pair of second period goals. Joe Pereira got the scoring started with an even strength goal at 4:56 of the frame when he collected a pass on the doorstep from Dirk Southern and slipped it between the pads of Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski. The Lynx extended their lead three minutes later when Aaron Slattengren tallied a power play goal by picking up a rebound at the top of the crease and lifting it past Kowalski.

The game remained a 2-0 Augusta lead well into the third period before the Everblades finally found the back of the net when Dustin Johner's slap shot from the high slot whistled by McKee with 2:59 remaining in regulation. Jon Lehun collected the lone assist on Johner's 22nd goal of the season. The Everblades turned up the pressure over the final two minutes, but saw their chances dashed with a late penalty whistled against them with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Kowalski suffered the tough-luck loss after making several big saves, but saw this record fall to 22-10-1 after allowing the two goals on 38 shots. McKee improved his record to 24-12-4 with the win.

On the power play, the Everblades failed to convert on any of their five chances, while the Lynx finished the night 1-for-7.
