Trenton Devils News Release
TOLEDO, OH (March 2, 2007) - A back-and-forth affair at the Toledo Sports Arena ended with the Trenton Titans on the wrong side of a 4-3 final against the Toledo Storm on Friday night.
After giving a lead in the third period, the Titans had come back to tie the game, only to see victory slip away. Bryan Miller had completed a 3-on-2 to tie it up at three with 4:30 left in the contest, but Bruce Mulherin gave the Storm the lead for good just thirty-nine seconds later as a bouncing puck in the crease deflected off of the forward's glove and past Joel Martin.
The Titans had been able to take a 2-1 edge into the final period thanks to Scott Bertoli. He knotted the game at 5:28 with a shorthanded goal, picking up a loose puck in the Titans' zone before racing up-ice and sneaking a wrist shot through the five-hole of Logan Koopmans. The Trenton captain then put his team up for first time in the contest with a 4-on-3 power play goal with forty-five seconds left until the second intermission.
In the third a quick scoring spurt allowed the Storm to go back up by one. Former Trenton Titan Matt Zultek made it 2-2 when he knocked Chris Blight's centering pass into the net at 6:38. A minute and seven seconds later, Dan Watson fired a slapshot off the backboards that came right to Taylor Raszka alone in front for the quick one-timer
With Toledo on the penalty kill in the first period, Blight broke the scoreless tie at 18:35 of the first period when he intercepted a pass at his own blueline and took it the length of the ice for a backhand goal.
The Titans went 1-for-6 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.
Prior to the game, the Titans added to their roster center Mike Hall and forward Beau McLaughlin. In addition defenseman Bryan Miller was assigned to Trenton from the Lowell Devils (AHL).
