ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones

Cyclones Extend Regulation Unbeaten Streak To 10

January 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play a pair of road games this weekend, squaring off against the second (Elmira on Saturday night) and third (Reading on Sunday afternoon) place teams in the North Division. Both games will be carried on 96 Rock in Cincinnati (96.5 FM). These are the final road games the squad will play before the ECHL All-Star Game (Janaury 23 at Stockton, CA).

WE'RE ONLY AT HOME WHEN WE'RE ON THE ROAD...: The Cyclones are 13-3 (.813 winning percentage) away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Cincinnati won all six games on its last road trip (Dec. 22-31), picking up victories in five different buildings inside the North Division (Dayton was the lone team to escape a defeat). The Cyclones are 10-1 (.909) on the road since November 13 (the lone loss a 3-2 verdict at Wheeling on Dec. 15) and have outscored the opposition during that stretch, 45-20.

...NOT BAD AT HOME EITHER: The Cyclones have a nine-game unbeaten in regulation time stretch at U.S. Bank Arena (7-0-2--.833). During that run, the club has outscored the opposition, 47-25. Cincinnati is 12-3-3 (.750) at home.

RED HOT: The Cyclones and Texas have identical 9-0-1 marks in their last ten games, which is the best current run in the ECHL. Cincinnati has not lost a game in regulation time since December 15 and are 15-1-2 (.889 winning percentage) since November 28.

EIGHT IN A ROW!: The win on New Year's Eve was the team's eighth in a row, eclipsing the previous mark for consecutive wins with seven from Dec. 22, 1995 through Jan. 5, 1996. The Cyclones lost a shootout, 4-3, Friday night against Reading--but have extended their unbeaten streak to ten games (9-0-1). This is the best ten game stretch in club history.

NINETEEN ABOVE .500!: The Cyclones, with a record of 25-6-3, are 19 games above .500 for the first time in team history. On March 19, 1995 the Louisville Riverfrogs beat Erie, 5-1, to improve to 38-22-7--the only time in history that the organization had been 16 games above break even. The last time a Cincinnati pro sports team was at least 19 games above .500 was when the Cincinnati Reds were 96-67 after their game on October 4, 1999.

DAOUST LEADING THE CHARGE: Cyclones right wing Jean-Michel Daoust leads the ECHL in scoring with 49 points (four more than Texas' John McNabb) and also leads all ECHL players with 26 goals (four more than Victoria's Ash Goldie). Last season, for the first time in club history, the Cyclones had the league's leading goal scorer (Mike Wirll, 47, who was a late season acquisition). The team has never had the circuit's top point producer. Should Jean-Michel continue producing points at his current pace, he is on track for 55 goals and 103 points. Both of those totals would be club records for a single season.

WE ARE QUITE OFFENSIVE: The Cyclones have scored a league-high 145 goals, 19 more than Texas--which has the second-most. Cincinnati is averaging 4.26 goals per game, the most in the ECHL. Of the five leagues playing 'AA' hockey or higher (NHL, AHL, ECHL, IHL, CHL), that average is the highest in North America. Colorado (CHL) is the next best at 3.90 goals per game. Only Indiana (MAHL--an 'A' league) has a higher average at 7.45.

NO OFFENSE TAKEN: The Cyclones posted the third-highest combined goal total in Saturday's 8-6 win over Reading. The 14 goals were third only to another famous Cincinnati-Reading game, the Dec. 27, 2002 contest that saw the Cyclones skate off with a dazzling 13-2 win. The only other time the club was involved in a 15 goal was an 8-7 loss at Johnstown on March 17, 1998 when the team was located in Louisville.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREES: Saturday night, the Cyclones exploded for four second period goals and then tacked on another three spot in the third period for the 8-6 win over Reading. It was the 20th and 21st time this season that Cincinnati has had at least three goals in a period--most in the ECHL. The Royals nicked Cincinnati for three first period goals, only the third time in 2007-08 that the club has allowed the same.

ABOUT SATURDAY NIGHT: Twice the Cyclones rallied from two goal deficits and skated away with an 8-6 win over Reading. Thomas Beauregard led the offensive assault with three goals and two assists for five points. Six players had multiple point games in the triumph.

ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT...: The Cyclones rallied from a two goal deficit in the final 5:05, but could not pull out the victory in the 4-3 shootout loss to Reading. Thomas Beauregard and Jason Deitsch netted scores to force the overtime session, but the Royals scored three times in the shootout to claim the win.

ABOUT MONDAY...: Cincinnati closed its six game road trip with a 3-1 win at Trenton on New Year's Eve. Jean-Michel Daoust, Matt Syroczynski and Cory Urquhart netted the goals, while Daoust and David Desharnais each had three point afternoons. Dov Grumet-Morris picked up the win, stopping eighteen shots and holding the Devils off the scoreboard for nearly 53 minutes.

GUNNING FOR 26 WINS!: The Cyclones picked up their 25th win of the season in Saturday's 3-1 win at Trenton--setting a club record for earliest, and fastest, to the plateau. Previously, the 1995-96 Louisville squad had 25 wins on Jan. 20 to establish both records. The average date in club history to register 26 wins is March 5. Last season, the Cyclones collected their 26th win on February 17.

SHATTER THIS!: The Cincinnati Cyclones have already won more games than they did prior to the All-Star break in 2006-07. The club was 21-13-3 at the All-Star break in 2006-07. Cincinnati is 25-6-3 right now, with three games remaining before the All-Star break. Cincinnati lost its seventh regulation time game on November 18 of last season. By January 7, the club already registered twelve.

THAT'S MR. COACH TO YOU: Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber will represent Cincinnati at the ECHL's All-Star Game on January 23. Weber was selected to be one of the coaches for the American Conference at the league's showcase event. Chuck is one of only seven coaches ever to be selected as an All-Star Game coach in his second season (six others have done it in their rookie year). The 34-year old has a 62-35-9 mark (.627) as the Cyclones mentor.

GREAT (RE)CALL: The Cyclones have had fifteen players appear in games with American Hockey League teams this season. Currently, eight players who have appeared in Cincinnati are on loan or recall to the AHL. The fifteen total players have appeared in 110 AHL games this season.

HE'S BACKKKK!: Center Jason Deitsch signed with the Cyclones on January 3. Deitsch, the first Cincinnati born player to ever play for the Cyclones, led the team with 71 points last season (26-45-71). Jason has goals in both games he has played and has three points already.

MACDONALD AND REYNOLDS HONORED: Cyclones Matt Macdonald and Scott Reynolds were named co-winners of the PaysourceUSA ECHL Plus Player of the Month award for December. Both players were +12 for the month. David Desharnais claimed the honor in November at +15.

CYCLONES COACHES SHOW: The Cyclones Coaches Show airs every Monday from Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee from 7-8pm. The show, featuring Head Coach Chuck Weber, also has two Cyclones players appearing each week. Tonight, Cory Urquhart and Gerard Miller are the guests.
