Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the organization has signed 26-year-old free agent forward Nathan Barrett.

Barrett brings 291 games of professional experience between the AHL and Europe to Salmon Kings. In that time he accumulated 191 points (85g-106a) and 210 minutes in penalties.

"The addition of Nathan is very exciting for our organization," Dan Belisle Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager said. "A player of his calibre will be of great benefit. He will add another offensive element to our game, and also bring the experience of five successful seasons in the AHL and Europe."

The Vancouver, BC native began this season with VISP of the Swiss Hockey League, and also played last season in Europe. He split his time in 2006-07 between the Staubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey-Liga (German Ice Hockey League, DEL) and TPS Turku of the SM-liiga (Finnish Ice Hockey League).

Barrett collected 10 points (5g-5a) in 18 games with Staubing and 12 points (7g-5a) in 16 games with TPS Turku.

"Nathan, quite honestly, might be the most skilled player in this league," Head Coach Mark Morrison said, "He is the total package. Nathan has great hands and is a former 30 goal scorer in the AHL. He is very good friends with Jordan and Derek Krestanovich, and wanted to begin to rebuild his career in Victoria. We are very happy to have him with us."

The 6-0, 189 pound former 8th round selection (#241 overall) of the Vancouver Canucks played the previous four seasons in the AHL with both the St. John's Maple Leafs and the Norfolk Admirals.

His best AHL season came in 2005-06 with Norfolk when he counted 61 points (30g-31a) in 78 games, and then contributed three points (1g-2a) in four playoff games.

Previously he spent five years in the Western Hockey League (WHL) as a member of both the Tri-City Americans and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In his final (20-year-old season) with the Hurricanes he led the WHL in scoring 107 points (45g-62a) in 72 games.
