VICTORIA SALMON KINGS GAME NOTES Friday, January 11th at Las Vegas Wranglers

SALMON KINGS HEADLINES: The Salmon Kings met the Utah Grizzlies last weekend for a three game set at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria took the first game 5-1, but Utah bounced back with a 2-1 overtime decision in the second matchup. The finale was played on Sunday afternoon. The Kings were the first on the board when Derek Krestanovich popped one in past Utah netminder Nathan Lawson. That's how the teams would go to the rooms after 20 minutes. Utah's Justin Bourne would tie the game up when he snapped a shot past Salmon King's goalie Billy Thompson. Victoria would jump back out on top when Patrick Coulombe scored a power play goal. It was 2-1 Kings after two periods. Utah would pot a power play goal of their own early in the final stanza to tie the game up, and the two teams would see overtime for the second time in less than 24 hours. In the extra frame the Grizzlies would put it away in the first minute when James Sanford would beat Thompson low on the glove side. The Grizzlies 3 Salmon Kings 2. Salmon Kings were 1/5 (20.0%) on the power play and the Grizzlies were 2-4 (50.0%). The shots were tied at 33 a piece.

2007 A GREAT YEAR FOR SALMON: The 2007 calendar year proved very good for the Salmon Kings as they finished with a 46-22-5 record.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Since losing at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on the night of the home opener, Victoria is undefeated in regulation time accumulating a 12-0-2-2 record.

BROTHERS ARE ARMED: The offensive arsenal of the Salmon Kings has been bolstered by the team's two sets of brothers, Ash and Wes Goldie and Derek and Jordan Krestanovich. One of the four has tallied a point in every game the Kings have played this year with the exception of the one game Victoria was shutout. In total they have combined for 48 goals and 53 assists for 101 points through the team's first 33 games.

ECHL TOP 10: Ash Goldie is tied for sixth in ECHL scoring with 38 points (22g-18a), is second in the ECHL in goals, leads the ECHL in power play goals (12), is tied for first in game winning goals (5) and is tied for third in first goals (4). Wes Goldie is tied for third in shorthanded goals (2) and is tied for fourth in game winning goals (4) as well. Marc-Andre Bernier is tied for ninth in game winning goals (3g). Julien Ellis is tied for third in wins (13), is sixth in save percentage (.924) and is tied for ninth in shutouts (1).

STREAKS: Chris St. Jacques has points in four straight games (2g-2a). Derek Krestanovich (1g-3a) and Darryl Lloyd (3a) have assists in three consecutive games. Ash Goldie has points in the six of the last seven games (7g-3a). Kevin Estrada (4g-2a) has points in four of the last five games.

CONTRACT PLAYERS: The Salmon Kings have six players under contract to NHL and AHL teams... Marc-Andre Bernier (Vancouver, NHL), Patrick Coulombe (Vancouver, NHL), Julien Ellis (Vancouver, NHL), Daniel Rahimi (Vancouver, NHL), Matt Kelly (Manitoba, AHL) and Dylan Yeo (Manitoba, AHL).

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Salmon Kings are fifth in the ECHL going 42-205 (20.5%) on the power play, and are eighth in the league on the penalty kill by stopping their opponents 84.6% (159-188) of the time.

THE ROSTER: Victoria is currently carrying 21 players; (12 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies)

UPCOMING GAMES: The Salmon Kings head to Las Vegas next weekend to take on the Wranglers. They play a two game set on Friday and Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Kings then return home for five straight home games starting on Tuesday, January 15th versus Bakersfield at 7:05 p.m.
