The week that was:

Friday, January 4, Columbia Inferno 2 @ Augusta Lynx 3

With two come-from-behind goals in the 3rd period, the Augusta Lynx kicked off 2008 on the right note with a 3-2 win over the visiting Columbia Inferno on Friday night. The Lynx quickly got on the board first as defenseman #5 Ken Scuderi got a pass from #20 Matt Auffrey and raced down the left wing. As he crossed the blueline, Scuderi who hadn't played in the last three games because of an injury, cranked a 55-foot bomb past Jeff Jakaitis for a 1-0 Lynx lead. However, the lead would not last thanks to some good cycling by the Inferno as Steve McJannet smashed home his 4th goal of the season in front of Lynx goalie #30 Bobby Goepfert to tie the game. In the 2nd period, new Lynx defenseman #11 Brian Yandle hit the first of what was to be three posts on the night for the Lynx, and Liam Huculak made the Lynx pay with a breakaway goal to make it 2-1 Inferno after two periods. But, the Lynx didn't roll over. An early 3rd period goal by captain #9 Louis Goulet on some great passing by Yandle and #25 Adrian Veideman tied the game at 2-2. Then with under two minutes remaining in the game, some nice forechecking by #24 Ryan Petz and #21 Bobby Bolt got the puck in the middle of the slot to #18 Igor Pohanka, who sent a wrister right over the left glove of Jakaitis for the game-winning goal.

Saturday, January 5, Augusta Lynx 1 @ Columbia Inferno 3

The Augusta Lynx will be happy to say goodbye to the Carolina Coliseum this season. Thanks to a 3-1 Columbia Inferno win on Saturday afternoon, the Augusta Lynx came away with only one win this season in Columbia. It took almost the entire game for the Lynx to get on the scoreboard, as Inferno goaltender Jeff Jakaitis put in another strong performance. The Lynx power play struggled, and it was none more evident during their second power play of the night, in which Columbia scored shorthanded of the tape of Steve McJannet. to take a 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Inferno to increase their lead in the 2nd period, as just a minute into the frame Owen Fussey found himself alone in front to slide one past Lynx goaltender #35 JP Levasseur for a 2-0 lead. The Lynx played well in stretches, especially late in the 2nd period and early in the 3rd. It finally paid off with a goal from #18 Igor Pohanka on a nice individual effort to elude two Inferno players and put one glove high on Jakaitis. #5 Ken Scuderi and #20 Matt Auffrey assisted on the goal. However, with Levasseur pulled late in the game, the Lynx couldn't get set-up with the extra attacker and Brad Ralph sealed the win with an 175-foot bank shot into the empty net.
