Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release


Biloxi, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves won all four games they played last week, beating Florida 5-2 on Tuesday and shutting out Gwinnett 1-0 on Saturday. The win in Gwinnett was sandwiched between victories over Trenton 4-1 on Friday and 2-1 in overtime on Sunday.

Tuesday, January 1 vs. Florida, 5-2 L

Ryan Munce made 45 saves and Gio Flamminio had three assists as the Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the Florida Everblades 5-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Tuesday.

The Sea Wolves opened the scoring just 1:58 into the first period when Lance Monych tipped Gio Flamminio's point shot past Florida goaltender Justin Peters. Ryan Menei extended Mississippi's lead to two when Pat Oliveto sprung him on a breakaway and he beat Peters along the ice at 4:40. Marek Kvapil gave the Sea Wolves a 3-0 lead at 19:03 of the first period when the banged the rebound of Flamminio's shot past Peters with the Sea Wolves on the power play.

Florida got on the board at 14:05 of the second period when Mike McLean found the back of the net from Kirk MacDonald and Dan Collins. The Everblades cut the Sea Wolves' lead to one when Derek Damon fired a shot through traffic and past Munce for a power-play goal at 17:16.

Mark Rooneem's seventh goal of the season gave Mississippi a 4-2 lead when he cut around Damon at the blue line and beat Peters along the ice at 8:13 of the third period. The Sea Wolves iced the victory when Jason Tejchma drove the net and shoveled Mark Hurtubise's centering feed past Peters for a power-play goal at 17:44 of the third stanza.

Ryan Munce made 45 saves to earn the win, and the Sea Wolves were 2-for-10 on the power play.

Friday, January 4 vs. Trenton, 4-1 W

The Mississippi Sea Wolves defeated the Trenton Devils by a score of 4-1 in front of 3, 628 fans at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday evening.

Lance Monych opened the scoring for the Sea Wolves with his 16th goal of the season when he banged his own rebound past Trenton goaltender Dave Caruso at the 2:47 mark of the first period. Trenton would even the score when Andrew Leach would score on the rebound of Matt Radoslovich's shot at 14:11. The Sea Wolves answered back to grab a 2-1 lead at 15:38 when Pat Oliveto fired a shot that deflected off of a Trenton stick and past Caruso.

Oliveto found the back of the net for the second time at the 10:22 mark of the second period when his shot from the right poin beat Caruso through traffic, earning Oliveto the first multi-goal game of his career.

Kyle McAllister would cap the scoring for Mississippi, firing into the empty net at 18:59 of the third period as Trenton had pulled Caruso in favor of an extra attacker.

Mississippi was 0-for-3 on the power play and Ryan Munce made 28 saves to earn the win.

Saturday, January 5 @ Gwinnett, 1-0 W

The Mississippi Sea Wolves won their third consecutive game on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center by a score of 1-0 as Torry Gajda scored the lone goal in the contest and Ryan Munce earned a shutout for Mississippi.

After a scoreless first period where Mississippi was able to kill off four Gwinnett power plays, including a lengthy five-on-three Gladiators man-advantage, Mississippi had several good chances in the second frame, but found themselves unable to find the back of the net. Ryan Munce made 25 saves to keep Gwinnett off the board through the first two periods.

The Sea Wolves broke the scoreless tie at the 14:15 mark of the third period when Torry Gajda banged the rebound of Kyle McAllister's shot past Gwinnett goaltender Dan Turple. Ryan Munce made 11 saves through the third period for a game total of 36 to earn his second shutout of the season. Mississippi was 0-for-2 on the power play.

Sunday, January 6 vs. Trenton, 2-1 OTW

The Mississippi Sea Wolves extended their winning streak to four as they defeated the Trenton Devils by the score of 2-1 in overtime at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Sunday.

Mississippi got on the board midway through the first period. With the Sea Wolves on the power play, Marek Kvapil snuck out of the right wing corner and fired a shot of the pad of Trenton goaltender Dave Caruso. The rebound went to Jason Tejchma, who fired it into the net for his 12th goal of the season at 12:15 of the first period. Trenton evened the score at 4:58 of the second period when Colin Pepperall found the rebound of Brad Mills' shot and put it past Mississippi's Ryan Munce at 4:58.

Mississippi killed off an early third period power play, and the game tied until Marek Kvapil fed the puck out of the right wing corner to Kyle McAllister, who fired it through Caruso's legs for the game winner 1:37 into overtime.

Ryan Munce made 34 saves to earn his fourth consecutive win, and the Sea Wolves were 1-for-3 on the power play.

Forward Bill Kinkel was traded to Idaho for future considerations on January 4... The team's equipment trailer had a flat tire on the way to Gwinnett early Saturday morning, forcing the team to stop for 90 minutes outside of Montgomery, Alabama... Pat Oliveto's two goals on Friday marked the first multi-point game of his career... Kyle McAllister's overtime game-winner on Sunday was his third game-winning goal of the season, his other two were scored while he was playing for Florida, coincidentally against Mississippi on the opening weekend of the season... The Sea Wolves' current four-game winning streak is the team's longest since March 23-April 1, 2005, when they rattled off five consecutive wins against Victoria, Louisiana, and Texas.
