Cincinnati, Elmira, Las Vegas, Texas Reach 50 Points

Following a two-game sweep of Charlotte over the weekend, Texas improved to 17-0-4 in its last 21 games, tying the ECHL record for consecutive games without a regulation loss held by Richmond which went 15-0-6 from Nov. 12-Dec. 30, 1995.

Las Vegas went 20 games without a regulation loss earlier this season going 16-0-4 from Nov. 3-Dec. 21. The Wranglers won their last 13 regular season games of 2006-07 and their first four games of 2007-08 to set a league record for consecutive wins over more than one season.

The Wildcatters reached 50 points in 30 games (23-2-5) while Richmond achieved the mark in 31 games (22-3-6). Cincinnati registered its 50th point in 32 games (24-6-2) while Elmira achieved the mark in 34 games (24-7-3) and Las Vegas did it in 33 games (22-5-6).

Louisiana reached 50 points faster than any team in history in 2001-02 achieving the mark in just 27 games (24-1-2) from Oct. 12-Dec. 16. The IceGators had 54 points (26-2-2) after 30 games and went on to finish at 56-12-4, setting league records for wins, home wins (30), road wins (26), points (116), points percentage (.806) and fewest home losses (2). Louisiana had a 14-game winning streak from Nov. 23-Dec. 22 tying the league mark set by Knoxville from Dec. 28, 1993-Jan. 29, 1994.

Texas, which is 26-2-5 and leads the league with 57 points, hosts South Carolina on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Wildcatters, who began the season 1-1-1, are on a five-game winning streak after previously posting winning streaks of seven games (Dec. 7-20), five games (Nov. 22-Dec. 1) and eight games (Oct. 28-Nov. 16).

Returning after missing the 2005-06 season in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Wildcatters made their first postseason appearance since moving to Beaumont in 2003-04 and set team records with 41 wins, 21 home wins and 20 road wins while improving 46 points from 2004-05 which is the fifth-largest single-season point improvement in the 19-year history of the ECHL.

Malcolm Cameron was selected his second consecutive All-Star Game by virtue of Texas having a 24-2-5 record and the best winning percentage (.855) in the American Conference on Jan. 2, surpassing 2006-07 when they were 20-6-3 (.741). Cameron is 67-24-14 (.705) in two seasons and is the winningest coach in team history surpassing Ray Edwards, who was 66-58-16 from 1998-2000 when the team played in Huntington, W.Va. Texas has won its last eight road games setting a league season high and surpassing its team record road winning streak of seven games established earlier this season. The Wildcatters tied their team record for consecutive wins with an eight-game winning streak from Oct. 28-Nov. 16.

Cincinnati is 25-6-3 and leads the North Division with 53 points, two points ahead of expansion Elmira which is 24-8-3. Cincinnati, which has won its last six road games tying the club mark set Dec. 15, 2002-Jan. 12, 2003, travels to Elmira on Saturday and to Reading on Sunday. The Cyclones are 15-1-2 in their last 18 games including eight consecutive wins from Dec. 16-31, breaking the team record of seven wins set in 1995-96 and tied in 1996-97.

Elmira, which is 11-2-2 in its last 15 games, will host Johnstown on Friday before Cincinnati on Saturday. The Jackals won a team record six home games in a row from Nov. 23-Dec. 15 before losing 5-1 to Cincinnati on Dec. 29 and had a club record seven-game winning streak from Nov. 17-27.

Richmond won the Brabham Cup and set an ECHL record with 105 points (46-11-13), finishing one point ahead of Toledo (48-14-8) which set a league record with 48 wins. Richmond became the first team in league history to reach 100 points on Mar. 15, 1996 while Toledo achieved the milestone on Mar. 22, 1996.

Since 1995-96 there have been 20 teams that have reached 100 points including Las Vegas and Alaska, which reached 50 points in 31 games in 2005-06 (24-4-3) each of the past two seasons. The Wranglers and Aces became the second and third teams, respectively, in history to score 100 points in back-to-back seasons joining Trenton, which won the Brabham Cup in 2001-02 with 104 points and finished second in 2001-02 with 102 points. Alaska finished first in the regular season in 2005-06 with 113 points (53-12-7), one point ahead of Las Vegas (53-13-6) as the two had the second-highest and third-highest point totals in league history. Las Vegas finished first in 2006-07 with 106 points (46-12-14), one point ahead of Alaska (49-16-7).


ECHL Coaches Hit Milestones



Entering Monday's game against South Carolina, John Marks of Pensacola had coached a league record 951 regular season games and is second with 473 regular season wins, seven shy of the record held by John Brophy. Brophy was 480-323-79 in 13 seasons and led Hampton Roads to a record three ECHL championships in 1991, 1992 and 1998.

Marks is in his first season in Pensacola and his record 14th in the league having coached Charlotte from 1993-98 and Greenville from 1998-2006. He has led his teams to the postseason a league record 10 times and was the first coach to lead two different teams to the ECHL title, coaching Charlotte to the Riley Cup in 1996 and Greenville to the Kelly Cup in 2002.

Florida coach Gerry Fleming became the sixth coach in ECHL history to reach 300 wins with a 7-2 win against South Carolina on Jan. 5. Fleming is 300-175-62 in one season with Tallahassee and seven seasons with Florida. He has led the Everblades to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of his first six seasons, including the conference finals three times in the last four years and back-to-back trips to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2004 and 2005.

Jeff Pyle of Gwinnett is 331-206-67 and one win shy of tying Frank Anzalone for third place in career coaching wins. Pyle has led the Gladiators to 40 wins and a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of their first four seasons, including the Kelly Cup Finals in 2006.

Utah coach Jason Christie is 291-187-59 in eight seasons and ranks seventh all time in career wins.

Augusta coach Bob Ferguson is 223-139-28 in his sixth ECHL season and has led the Lynx to back-to-back Kelly Cup Playoff appearances for the first time since 2001 and 2000.

Glen Gulutzan is in his fifth season with Las Vegas and has a 195-85-41 record, including 121-30-26 since 2005-06, while Chris Cichocki of Stockton is 197-202-65 in seven seasons having previously coached Arkansas and Cincinnati.

In his fifth ECHL season, Malcolm Cameron is 182-100-39, including 67-24-19 since taking over in Texas in 2006-07, having previously coached in Cincinnati and Long Beach.
