Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI - Goals eleven seconds apart in the first period and a pair of goals in the second period from Mathieu Aubin set the Cincinnati Cyclones in motion to end a two game losing streak in a 7-1 win over the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday night. The triumph also ended a seven-game winning streak for the North Division leaders.
The Cyclones opened with a flurry, netting all three goals of the first period. Brian Schmidt opened the scoring with a shot from the point 5:14 into the frame, his third of the season, with Scott Reynolds and Mathieu Aubin adding the assists. Matt Syroczynski tipped in a shot at 13:15, his fourth of the year, from another point blast from Schmidt with another helper going to Mark Matheson. Eleven seconds later, at 13:26, Andrew Miller scored his second of the campaign from James Sixsmith and Thomas Beauregard.
In the second period, second-year forward Mathieu Aubin netted a pair of goals to extend the lead to 5-0. Aubin's first came at 3:39, his sixth of the season from Barret Ehgoetz. The second tally of the frame was a power play marker at 14:33 from Jon Gleed and Mark Matheson.
The third period saw Ehgoetz score a shorthanded goal 4:04 into the third period, his fifth of the season from Thomas Beauregard. The lead opened to 6-0 when Jean-Michel Daoust collected his eleventh goal of the year at 5:49 from David Desharnais and Matheson, who registered his third assist of the night. Frank Littlejohn netted his sixth goal of the season at 9:41 of the final frame to break up the shutout bid by Dov Grumet-Morris.
Goaltender Grumet-Morris won his fourth straight decision for the Cyclones, stopping 15 shots in collecting his sixth win of the season.
Cyclones right wing Jean-Michel Daoust extended his point streak to ten games with the third period goal. During this string that started back on Nov. 7, Daoust has eleven goals and eight assists for 19 points. It is the second-longest point streak in team history (Joe Cardarelli had a 13-game stretch during 2002-03). Daoust's assist extends his stretch of games with an assist to seven, tying the club record.
Cyclones 10-5-1 lost two straight, Elmira 13-5-1 won seven straight. The Jackals were 11-3 since losing to Cincinnati back on Nov. 2, by a 5-1 count, prior to this evening's game.
The Cyclones have a 9-3-1 record in November, the second-most wins the club has recorded in a month. Cincinnati turned in a ten win month during March 2002.
Cincinnati hits the road for a pair of contests this weekend. Friday night, the club is at Johnstown for a 7pm tilt and Saturday, the squad is at Trenton, also for a 7pm clash. Both games will be carried on SuperTalk FM 96.5. The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena for three games next week (12/5 v. Dayton and 12/7 and 12/8 v. Elmira).
