Elmira Jackals News Release

Falling behind by three goals in the first period, the Elmira Jackals were unable to recover in dropping a 7-1 contest to Cincinnati Wednesday night in front of 629 fans at U.S. Bank Arena. The loss snapped the Jackals season-high winning streak at seven games and allowed the Cyclones to pull to within four points of front running Elmira in the North Division.

Defenseman Bryan Schmidt got the home team rolling with a breakaway goal 5:19 into the game. Cincinnati then took control of the opening frame with goals eleven seconds apart from Matt Syrocyznski (13:15 on the power play) and Andrew Martin (13:26) as the Cyclones out shot the Jackals 12-6 in the period.

Mathieu Aubin struck for a pair of second period goals to extend the Cyclones lead to 5-0 at the end of forty minutes.

Elmira was unable to stop the bleeding in the third as Barrett Ehgoetz and Jean-Michel Daoust bumped the advantage up to 7-0 with 14:11 left in the game.

The Jackals finally got on the board with a Frank Littlejohn power play goal at 9:41 of the third period, but that turned out to be the final strike for either side.

Joel Martin took the loss in goal stopping 25 of 32 shots in matching a career-high surrendering all seven goals.

Elmira was 1-for-6 on the power play while Cincinnati was 2-for-3.

The Jackals are now off until Wednesday, December 5th, when they host the Trenton Devils in a 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at the Gray Street box office - First Arena, charge-by-phone by calling 722-3711 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
