Syracuse Crunch News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds scored a late third period goal to top the Syracuse Crunch, 3-2, tonight at the MassMutual Center.
Rookies Taylor Raddysh and Alex Barre-Boulet potted goals for the Crunch as the team slips to 15-8-2-0 on the season and 1-1 in the four-game season series against the Thunderbirds.
Crunch goaltender Eddie Pasquale turned aside 27-of-30 shots, while Samuel Montembeault earned the win with 27 saves between the pipes for the Thunderbirds. Syracuse went 1-for-4 on the power play and stopped 6-of-7 Springfield man-advantages.
The Crunch opened scoring halfway through the first period. After Gabriel Dumont got tied up following the draw in the left circle, Raddysh grabbed the puck, stick handled into the slot, turned down towards the corner and snuck the puck across the goal line as he cut across the crease.
The Thunderbirds evened the score 4:23 into the middle frame. Bobby Farnham threw a shot on net that went off Jake Horton's skate and in. Ludwig Bystrom earned the secondary helper. Springfield took the lead three minutes later when Dryden Hunt netted a wrister from the left circle on the power play. Assists went to Matt Mangene and Bystrom.
Syracuse knotted the game with a power-play goal of their own at the 15:02 mark. Carter Verhaeghe sent the puck to Cory Conacher in the slot where he quickly fed Barre-Boulet for a backdoor one-timer from the right circle.
Springfield reclaimed the lead with 3:25 remaining in the game. Bystrom's left point shot trickled past Pasquale where Hunt jammed it home. Jonathan Ang earned a point on the game-winner.
The Crunch complete a five-game road trip at Lehigh Valley this Friday at 7:05 p.m.
