SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- Alex Barre-Boulet scored the game-winner with 16 seconds remaining in overtime to the lift the Syracuse Crunch over the Binghamton Devils, 4-3, tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Barre-Boulet paced the team with two goals on the night, while Dominik Masin and Ross Colton both tallied a multi-point night with two assists each. The win moves the Crunch to 11-8-2-0 on the season and 2-0-0-0 in the 10-game season series against the Devils.
Goaltender Spencer Martin earned the win with 26 saves between the pipes for the Crunch. Gilles Senn stopped 38-of-42 in net for the Devils. Syracuse was unable to convert on six power play opportunities and went 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
After a scoreless first period, the Crunch broke the stalemate just eight seconds into the middle frame. Barre-Boulet grabbed the puck at the right boards and netted a wrister as we cut across the slot. Mitchell Stephens and Luke Witkowski tallied the assists.
The Devils tied the game at the 4:36 mark. Michael McLeod sent the puck up through the left circle for Dakota Mermis to one-time from the point. Nathan Bastian earned the secondary helper.
Syracuse went back on top off a breakaway goal from Danick Martel late in the middle frame. He picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, sped into the zone and tucked the puck behind Senn. Masin recorded a point on the play.
Binghamton knotted the game for a second time with a power-play goal 3:18 into the third period. Fabian Zetterlund backhanded a centering feed for Julian Melchiori to send home as he skated down the slot. Dakota Mermis assisted on the equalizer.
At 15:13, the Crunch regained the lead on another breakaway. Cory Conacher chased down the puck, flipped to his backhand and went top shelf over Senn. Masin and Colton assisted on the play.
With just 56 seconds remaining in the game, Binghamton evened the score to force overtime. Ryan Schmelzer dug the puck out from the end boards for Joey Anderson to score with a quick stick in the bottom of the right circle. Mermis made it a three-point night with the secondary assist.
Barre-Boulet finally ended it when he scored the game-winner with less than a minute remaining in overtime to give Syracuse the victory. Colton tallied his second point on the game-winner.
