Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (27-23) allowed four 11th inning runs in a 6-2 loss to the Beloit Snappers (17-30) on Sunday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. The loss trimmed the Cougars advantage in the series to two games to one.

Through the normally scheduled innings, it was a pitcher's night. The Cougars and Snappers combined for just two runs through the first nine frames. In the top of the third, Joseph Pena singled to score Logan Farrar and make it 1-0 Beloit. The Cougars responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alek Thomas walked to lead off the inning. He stole second base and tied the game when Jose Herrera singled to centerfield.

The next runs didn't come until extras. JJ Schwarz recorded a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th for Beloit. The Cougars only run in extras came on Jose Hererra's RBI double with no one out. Herrera advanced to third on the play when right fielder Logan Farrar misplayed Herrera's double. Beloit intentionally walked each of the next two Cougar batters to load the bases with no one out. With the winning run at third, Blaze Alexander and Geraldo Perdomo popped out and Zac Almond flew out to center to leave all three runners stranded.

In the 11th, with runners at second and third with one out, a Chester Pimentel pitch snuck past catcher Zac Almond to allow the go-ahead run to score. With one out and a runner at third, Pimentel struck out Logan Farrar, but the pitch got past Almond again, forcing in a second run. Ethan Larrison entered the game on the mound for the Cougars with the bases loaded and walked back-to-back batters to force in the fifth and sixth Beloit tallies.

Pimentel (2-4) suffered the loss. He was charged for five runs (three earned) on one hit and two walks over 1.1 innings. Beloit reliever Eric Marinez (3-2) notched the win. The only run he allowed over two innings was unearned.

The Cougars and Snappers play the finale of the four-game series on Monday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or order online at kccougars.com.
