ANCHORAGE, Alaska. - The Bakersfield Condors tied the game up late, but lost in a nine- round shootout to the Alaska Aces, 3-2, Friday night, in front of 5,630 at Sullivan Arena. The Condors did gain a point and reduced their magic number for clinching a playoff berth to seven points.

"We had a tough first period but we really stepped up after that," said Condors head coach Marty Raymond. "Hodson and Balan both had great games for us. We are happy to start the road trip by taking a point from the best team in the league."

Alaska (40-13-3, 83 points) struck first at 13:55 of the opening period, when Olivier Filion knocked the puck past Jamie Hodson to make it 1- 0. The Condors argued icing should've been called prior to the goal, but to no avail.

Bakersfield (32-13-9, 73 points) came right back just 36 seconds later, as Andrew Ianiero chipped a centering feed from Sean Venedam over the blocker of Derek Gustafson to tie it 1-1.

But Alaska regained the lead at 16:54, when Matt Shasby tipped-in a pass from Joe Talbot.

The Condors had the better of the play in the second period, including two power-play chances, but were unable to score. The Aces had a chance late in the session on a two-on-none break, but Hodson made a spectacular toe save on Filion.

Bakersfield had a golden opportunity short- handed early in the third, but Gustafson stopped Mike Hofstrand's point- blank chance.

The Condors tied it up with just 3:44 left, when Sean Venedam snapped one past Gustafson to even it 2-2, setting the stage for overtime and then the shootout.

Notes: The Condors are now 3-2-2 against the Aces this season. Alex Rogosheske was activated from the 7-day injured list, and Tyler Liebel was placed on the 7-day injured list.

Alexandre Bolduc was not placed on the Manitoba Moose Clear Day roster released Friday, which means he isn't eligible to play the rest of the regular season or the playoffs for the AHL team.

The Condors play the Aces again Saturday at 8:15 p.m. (PST) and Sunday at 6:05 p.m. (PST). After two days off, they start a three-game series in Utah on Wednesday, to be followed by two games in Phoenix, and one in Long Beach to round out the trip.

The team returns to The Nest on March 17th for a game against the Stockton Thunder, as Bright House Networks, 101.5 KGFM and American Business Machines present SpongeBob Squarepants and the St. Patrick's Day Jersey Raffle and Auction. SpongeBob will be live and in person to entertain the crowd, plus five lucky fans will win special game-worn St. Patrick's Day jerseys, with proceeds from the auction donated to Kern Adult Literacy Council.
