Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - Cyclones forward Jean-Michel Daoust scored two goals and goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris turned aside 36 shots to lead Cincinnati to a 6-2 decision over the Stockton Thunder (24-19-10, 58 pts) before 5,859 fans at Stockton Arena on Friday night.
The Thunder is currently in 6th place in the National Conference, five points clear of 7th place Phoenix, and eight points ahead of 8th place Victoria.
Thunder defenseman Jason Beckett opened the scoring at the 14:20 mark of the first period on the power-play, as his point shot found its way through a screen and beat Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris glove-side to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. The goal was Beckett's 3rd tally thus far this season.
Cincinnati would level the score at 1-1 just over 2 minutes later, as forward Travis Lisabeth converted a one-time feed from forward Scott Reynolds that got past Thunder goaltender Cam Ellsworth. Lisabeth's goal, a power-play marker scored at 16:28, was his 16th goal of the season. Cyclones forward Matt Rogers lifted Cincinnati to a 2-1 advantage at 18:48, capping an odd-man rush with his 2nd goal of the season as his wrist-shot attempt beat Ellsworth top-shelf on the glove-side.
The Thunder narrowly missed leveling the score in the early moments of the second period as a Stockton shot attempt caromed off the boards behind Grumet-Morris, bouncing in the direction of center Nathan Martz. Martz corralled the loose puck, only to be stymied by a sprawling Grumet-Morris, who recovered in time to make the skate save.
Cyclones forward Jason Deitsch would increase the Cincinnati lead to 3-1 at the 14:57 mark, the recipient of a tape-to-tape feed from defenseman Matt Macdonald. Deitsch, streaking up the right side, beat Ellsworth five-hole with a backhand shot along the ice. The goal, scored at 4-on-4, was Deitsch's 23rd tally on the season.
The Cincinnati offensive onslaught continued in the final frame. Cyclones forward Barret Ehgoetz lifted Cincinnati to a 4-1 lead at 2:57 of the third period, the beneficiary of a feed from defenseman Chad Starling. Ehgoetz, left un-marked to the left of Ellsworth, slid the puck past the Stockton netminder for his 10th goal of the season.
Cyclones forward Jean-Michel Daoust proceeded to give Cincinnati a 5-1 advantage, tipping an Ehgoetz pass attempt by Ellsworth at 5:16 for his 24th goal on the year. Daoust struck again less than two minutes later on the power-play as his wrist-shot from the left face-off circle beat Ellsworth five-hole. Daoust's 25th goal on the season gave Cincinnati a 6-1 lead.
Thunder defenseman Beau Geisler capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 15:40. The goal was Geisler's 6th thus far this season.
