Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA - Shane Hynes' second period goal broke a 1-1 tie as the Augusta Lynx won a hard-fought victory over the Charlotte Checkers by a 2-1 count on Saturday night in front of 3,677 fans at the James Brown Arena.
Hynes forced a puck in front that appeared to deflect off a Charlotte player and past goaltender Chris Holt just after the expiration of a Lynx power play. Coming just 1:40 in to the middle frame, Hynes' goal from Louis Goulet and Mike Erickson would stand up as the game winner despite several chances for both sides throughout the remainder of the game.
Damen Rycroft started the scoring 4:43 into the game with his 19th of the year from Bruce Graham and Nathan Gillies.
Augusta replied at 15:38 when Hynes stole the puck from Jan Vodrazka at the side of the Checkers' goal. As Vodrazka dove back in front of the net, Hynes lifted a saucer pass over the sprawling blueliner to Goulet who swatted the puck out of the air and past Holt to tie the game at 1-1.
From there, the goaltenders would duel each other to a scoreless draw, with Dave McKee earning the win and his second straight first star selection with 31 saves, while Holt stopped 29 shots in the loss.
The same two teams get back to action on Tuesday night in Charlotte to conclude a home-and-home series at 7 pm, with radio coverage beginning one half-hour before puck drop on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630. Augusta's next home games will be Thursday, March 22 against South Carolina and Friday, March 23 against the Checkers, with both games at 7:35 pm. Tickets are on sale now for $18, $15, and $11, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military personnel.
