March 3, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
West Valley City, UT - Kevin Baker and Mike Madill each had a goal and two assists and Matt Yeats stopped all 12 Grizzlies shots as the Wildcatters (32-18-5-4) ended their four game losing streak with a convincing 6-0 shut out win over Utah in front of 4,207 at The E Center. Kevin Baker started the scoring in the first period as he beat Grizzlies net minder Rob McVicar with a shot to the top left of the net for his team leading 31st goal of the season.
In the second period, the Wildcatters went up 2-0 as Mark Rooneem scored on the power play with a feed from Olivier Proulx. The third period saw four âCatters goals and five fights. Mike Madill scored 1:07 into the final frame. Then 26 seconds later Leon Hayward made it 4-0 with help from Colin Nicholson. Midway through the period, Daniel Sparre beat McVicar to continue the âCatters domination. Shortly after, the fireworks would begin.
Just six seconds after his goal, Sparre was involved in a fight with Luciano Aquino in the Utah defensive zone. While the first fight broke out, David Herring tangled with Jake Riddle at the Grizzlies blue line. As Riddle briefly fell to the ground, he tried to gain his balance and Herring knocked him out with a vicious blow. Just 26 seconds after, Captain Brandin Cote battled with Ed Campbell in the Utah zone. Following that fight, Jason Beeman and Gordon Burnett each fought for the second time in the series. Jeff State and Bill Kinkel concluded the Saturday night fighting with a bout of their own in the Wildcatters zone. In all, five fights took place in the third period, the most for each team this season. Mike Bayrack finished up the scoring for Texas with a power play goal.
The Wildcatters out shot Utah 13 to 4 in each period for a total of 39 to 12. Texas ended the game 2 for 5 on the power play and for the first time in the series Utah did not score on the man advantage, going 0 for 5. With the win and a Florida overtime loss, the Wildcatters are now back in a first place tie with the Everblades. Each team has 73 points. The Wildcatters seven game road trip continues on Tuesday night at Phoenix.
