MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs rallied from a two-goal deficit to top the Lowell Lock Monsters, 6-5, in a shootout in front of a crowd of 8,424 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs (7-3-0-1, 15 points) move into third place in the Atlantic Division. Lowell (6-5-0-2, 14 points) are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Just thirty-seconds into the game, center Connor James tallied his third of the season to put the Monarchs up 1-0. James capitalized on a rebound from left wing Jeff Tambellini's shot from the edge of the face-off circle. Right wing Brad Smyth recorded his 800th professional point with an assist on the first goal of the game.

The Monarchs took a 2-0 lead at 4:29 of the first period as defenseman Richard Petiot blasted a slap shot from the left point that clanked off the far post and into the net for his first professional goal. Rookie right wings Konstantin Pushkarev and Lauri Tukonen assisted on the play.

Center Brad Richardson sent a blistering slap shot, from the blue-line, in on Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust for the Lock Monsters first goal of the game. Defenseman Chris Hajt and left wing Paul Healey received helpers on the goal at 1:17 of the second period.

Right wing Chad Larose knocked in his seventh of the year at 12:41 of the second period to tie the game at two. With a 5-on-3 power play, the Lock Monsters took control and fired shots at Brust. Larose tipped in Richardson's shot for the tally. Left wing Andrew Ladd also assisted on the power play goal.

Lowell took the lead with center David Gove's point blank, five-hole shot at 17:46 of the middle frame. Hajt and right wing Craig Adams assisted on the go-ahead goal that topped off the second period, dominated by the Lock Monsters.

Center Keith Aucoin made it 4-2 at 7:58 of the third period with Lowell's second 5-on-3 power play goal of the night. Larose and Ladd assisted on the Lock Monsters final goal of the night.

Smyth roofed his third of the year from the right face-off circle at 11:36 of the final period. James dropped the puck to Smyth who rifled the puck over Lowell goaltender Vitaly Kolesnik's right shoulder. Defenseman Marty Wilford assisted on the goal to bring the Monarchs to within one.

Right wing Petr Kanko tied the game, 4-4, at 14:18 of the final frame. Kanko collected the puck in the neutral zone and sent a bomb from just inside the blue line and past Nastiuk. Center Matt Ryan assisted on Kanko's shorthanded goal.

Referee Francois St. Laurent waived off a Lowell goal at 15:22.

The Monarchs received shootout tallies from Smyth, Pushkarev and Tukonen. Tambellini's shot went off the post.

Brust denied all but two of Lowell's shootout snipers. Aucoin and right wing Daniel DaSilva were able to slip the puck past the Monarchs goaltender.

Brust (3-1-0) earned his third win of the season stopping 33 shots. Nastiuk (0-2-3) took the loss with 18 saves.
