Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Cleveland Barons 5-1 on the strength of four power play goals and one shorthanded marker in front of 4,654 fans at Copps Coliseum on Friday night.
The first period was scoreless as Hamilton out shot Cleveland 9-4 in the opening frame.
The opening goal of the game was scored by Bulldogs forward Andrei Kostitsyn at 5:15 of the second period. While on the power play, defenseman Ron Hainsey's shot from the point deflected off a Barons defender allowing Kostitsyn to knock it out of mid-air and into the net.
Hamilton scored their second power play goal of the game at the 17:58 mark of the second period. Corey Locke was left alone at the side of the crease and lifted the puck over Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold's glove. Francis Lemieux and J.F. Jacques drew the assists on the play.
Michael Lambert scored his second goal of the season while the Bulldogs were shorthanded at 8:16 of the third period. Lambert stole the puck off a Baron's defenseman and skated in alone before roofing a backhand shot over Patzold.
The Barons cut the lead to 3-1 on a power play of their own, when defenseman Tim Conboy one-timed a Doug Murray pass past Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis at the 11:10 mark of the third.
Hamilton regained their three goal lead just 1:12 later, when Locke took a cross ice pass from James Sanford and deposited it to the back of the net for his second goal of the game and the Bulldogs third marker on the power play.
Lambert potted his second goal of the game at 15:36 of the third period when he tipped a Mathieu Roy point shot past a screened Patzold, rounding out the scoring in the game.
Bulldogs goaltender Danis stopped 23 shots to earn his second straight victory, while Patzold made 22 saves for the Barons in a losing cause.
Hamilton was 4 for 10 with the man advantage and Cleveland was 1 for 7.
The Bulldogs host the Grand Rapids Griffins tomorrow, Saturday, November 12, for the third time this season. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at Copps Coliseum Box Office (in-person sales only), any Ticketmaster outlet, or online at ticketmaster.ca.
