Iowa Chops News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Iowa Stars traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday night, looking to avenge their Tuesday night loss to the Admirals, but the Ads have different plans. Despite jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Stars were unable to hold off the potent Milwaukee power-play, losing 6-3, with the sixth goal coming with goalie Mike Smith pulled in-favor of the extra-attacker.

The Stars night began beautifully, as they scored on three of their first four shots on Milwaukee goalie Brian Finley. Just loaned by Edmonton, center Kyle Brodziak netted his first goal of the season to spot the Stars a 1-0 lead, with newcomer Jamie Johnson and Yan Stastny picking up the assists. Just over two minutes later, it was Stastny scoring his third goal of the young season. Patrick Traverse, team leading 10 assists, and Johnson garnered the helpers. Yared Hagos gave the Stars a three goal lead when he registered his first North American Professional goal. Hagos' unassisted goal came at the 11:22 mark.

Milwaukee responded to the early deficit by pulling goalie Brian Finley and replacing him with Pekka Rinne. Rinne was the spark the Ads needed, as he stopped all 15 shots he faced and allowed their offense to ‘get going'. Milwaukee registered the next six goals, the first four coming with a man-advantage. Their sixth and final goal came via the empty-net and was short-handed. Libor Pivko registered the first short-handed goal scored upon the Stars in team history. In their 12th game, the Stars became the last team in the 27 team AHL to have a shorthanded goal scored against them.
