Bears come up big in Albany, win 6-4

HERSHEY wins its third consecutive game, and tenth in a row over the Albany River Rats with a 6-4 win at Pepsi Arena Friday night.

The BEARS got off to a good start when Boyd Gordon scored his second goal of the season just 2:54 into the game. Albany would tie the game before first intermission with a goal from Tuomas Pihlman, but HERSHEY came off the mat to score three goals in the second period. Eric Fehr scored his fourth of the year just 1:25 into the second, followed by Jared Aulin's third of the year at 13:45. Gordon added his second of the game at 14:21 to extend the lead to 4-1 BEARS. The Rats pulled within two at the 19:44 mark of the second period when veteran Pascal Rheaume scored his second goal of the season. HERSHEY outshot Albany through two periods 22-17.

The teams traded goals in the third period, with Pihlman scoring the first hat trick against the BEARS this season, but Aulin scored his second of the game at 13:39 and Dave Steckel scored his first of the season to put it on ice at 18:02 of the third.

Kirk Daubenspeck won his second game in a row, making 21 saves. Rats netminder Ari Ahonen lost his third game in five decisions, making 24 saves on 30 shots.

HERSHEY will play the second game of its current three-game road trip Saturday night against the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena. Face-off is set for 7:35 p.m., with the pre-game show airing at 7:15 p.m. on the BEARS radio network.
