Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Danny Richmond from the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. The team has placed defenseman Andrew Hutchinson on injured reserve after he suffered a hip injury prior to Carolina's game against Florida on Nov. 5. In addition, the Colorado Avalanche reassigned Paul Healey to the Lock Monsters on Thursday.
This marks the first call-up to the NHL for Richmond, the 21-year-old Chicago native who the Hurricanes selected with the first pick of the second round (31st overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Richmond has played in all 12 games for Lowell this season, scoring one goal and adding seven assists (8 points) to lead all Lock Monsters defensemen in points. During the 2005 NHL exhibition season, Richmond (6' 1", 192 lbs.) played in four of Carolina's eight games, and recorded a goal and two assists (3 points) while posting a plus-1 plus/minus rating.
In 2004-05, Richmond played his first professional season with Lowell and had four goals, nine assists (13 points) and 139 penalty minutes in 63 regular-season games. In the Lock Monsters' postseason run, Richmond earned two assists in six games while recording eight penalty minutes. He captained the Hurricanes' squad at the 2005 Ottawa Senators NHL Rookie Tournament in September, and finished the four-game round robin with two assists and a plus-3 rating.
The Hurricanes play in Florida tonight and home against Atlanta on Saturday.
Tonight the Lock Monsters will head north to Manchester for the first time this season, set for a 7:35 p.m. start. On Saturday night, Lowell hosts the Hartford Wolf Pack in a 7:35 p.m. start and the first Saturday home game of the season for the Monsters. That night a Monster will score three, or the next home game is free! The Lock Monsters promise that one of their players will record a hat trick on Saturday, or everyone in attendance will get a free ticket to see Lowell host Albany on November 16th.
That game is also Military Appreciation Night, and fans are encouraged to bring items to donate to care packages for soldiers stationed around the world. A complete list of appropriate items can be found on www.lockmonsters.com. Anyone making a donation will receive a free ticket to the Monsters home game on November 20th. Call (978) 458-PUCK for more information. Lowell closes out the weekend by heading to Bridgeport for a 4:05 p.m. start against the Sound Tigers on Sunday.
Individual tickets are on sale now at the Tsongas Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
