Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - After three straight losses at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, the Senators wrapped up their first victory on home ice this season in dramatic fashion, with a 6-5 win against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Captain Denis Hamel's second goal of the evening, coming on the power play with just 39 seconds left in regulation, sealed the deal for Binghamton and gave the Sens a much needed two points in the standings.

Hartford jumped out to 3-0 lead at the intermission thanks to two first-period goals from Colby Genoway and another from former B-Sens center Alexandre Giroux

First-year Senator Jeff Heerema started a B-Sens comeback when he notched his sixth tally of the young season just 4:02 into the middle frame. Winger Brandon Bochenski then picked up his third goal since being sent down from Ottawa leaving Binghamton down by only one goal. Bochenski's tally came at the 12:30 mark of the second period with assists going to defenseman Lance Ward and Hamel.

Grant Potulny's first goal of the season tied the score 3-3 for the Sens, however that lead would not hold up long as Chad Wiseman picked up the go-ahead goal for the Wolf Pack just 24 seconds after Potulny's tying marker.

Early in the third period Binghamton was able to pull even once again as Bochenski recorded his second goal of the night just 1:12 into the final frame. Once again, Hartford had a quick answer for the Sens and took back the lead, 5-4, thanks to a Jarkko Immonen goal 3:27 into the third.

Hamel then took matters into his own hands. At 4:43 of the third period, Hamel tied the score 5-5 with his fourth goal of the season.

That would set up the nail-biting ending for Binghamton. With Ivan Baranka in the box for tripping, Hamel fired a shot past Hartford goaltender Chris Holt and sent the crowd into a frenzy as the Sens took the contest 6-5.

Billy Thompson picked up his first win of the year, stopping 29 of 34 shots, and snapping a six-game losing streak. Holt made 33 saves on 39 shots in the loss for the Wolf Pack.

Binghamton scored three power-play goals on their eight chances while Hartford closed out the night two for five with the extra man.

The Sens return to action on Saturday night when they welcome the Philadelphia Phantoms into town for a 7:05 p.m. tilt. Call (607) 722-SENS for ticket information.
