Colorado Eagles Sting the Scorpions, Again

Windsor, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) took on the New Mexico Scorpions tonight at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles experienced their fifth game at home, their fourth win at home, in the presence of a sold out, 5,211, fans at the Budweiser Events Center. The Colorado Eagles have sold out every home game of their inaugural 2003-04 season.

The Eagles struck early when right winger, Greg Pankewicz, scored from left winger Ryan Tobler and center Riley Nelson 1:01 into the first period. Four minutes later the Eagles struck again on a power play when Tobler netted a goal from Pankewicz and defenseman Scott Swanson. New Mexico answered the Eagles second goal 7:31 into the period when left winger Mike Possin scored from left winger Brian Barker and defenseman Arturs Kupaks. Fifty-five seconds later (8:26) Eagles Nelson netted a goal from Pankewicz and Tolber. The period ended with an Eagles 3-1 lead.

The second period remained scoreless until almost fourteen minutes into play (13:53) Nelson netted his second goal of the game from Tobler. The Eagles made it a 5-1 game when Fort Collins native, left winger, Lee Arnold scored his first goal in his first game dressed for the Eagles, the goal was assisted by forward Daniel Bohac and right winger Fraser Filipic (his first game back from past seven games on injured reserve). The period ended with a 5-1 Eagle lead.

The Eagles began the third period with 22 shots on goal to 14 shots for the Scorpions. The period remained scoreless until Eagles Nelson netted his third goal of the game and his first hat trick of the season at 12:28 (the goal was unassisted). The Scorpions center Mike Oliveira scored an unassisted goal 15:08 into the period, and the team struck again 18:58 into the period when center Chris Richards scored from left winger Peter Ambroziak and Oliveira. The game ended with a 6-3 Eagles win.

Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 19 of 22 shots on goal. The Eagles out-shot the Scorpions 31-22. The Colorado Eagles are now 7-4-1 on the season with 15 points.

NEXT FOR THE EAGLES

The Colorado Eagles travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Cotton Kings, Saturday, November 15 at 6:05 p.m. (MST). The Eagles then head to Fort Worth for a match up against the Brahmas, game time is set for 2:00 p.m. (MST). The Colorado Eagles next home game is Wednesday, November 19. The Eagles will face the Lubbock Cotton Kings, the puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m.
