Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gladiators used two third period goals to beat the South Carolina Stingrays 3-1 in front of 5,026 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday night.

Blue Bennefield gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead for just the fourth time this season at the 5:33 mark of the first period. He used a nifty move to beat South Carolina net minder David Brumby for his fourth goal of the season. On a give and go with Joe Bourne, Cam Brown was able to slide the puck down to Bennefiled in the slot to set up the goal.

South Carolina tied the contest up at one as Mary Clapton was able to beat Michael Garnett at the 9:14 mark of the first period. Edward Courtenay and Dave Seitz added the assists on the goal.

In the second, the teams skated to a scoreless tie as the Gladiators outshot the Stingrays 11-8 in the middle period. Kris Goodjohn scored what proved to be the game winner seconds after a Gladiators power play expired at the 9:22 mark of the third period. Troy Milam slid the puck to Goodjohn in the slot and he punched the puck past Brumby. Mike Vigilante also added an assist on the goal.

The Gladiators extended their lead to two goals as Brad Peddle scored his first goal of the seaosn on a five-on-three power play at the 12:32 mark of the third period. Joe Bourne and Brandon Dietrich added the assists as the Gladiators controlled the puck in the South Carolina zone on the Power Play.

Michael Garnett made 20 saves for the Gladiators in the win and improves to 6-1-0 on the season. The Gladiators extended their streak to four games with at least one power play goal as they went 1-5 on the man advantage.

The Gladiators are back in action tomorrow night when the Roanoke Express visit the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m. It's Peggy Slappey Properties Backpack weekend. The first 2,000 kids ages 12 and under will receive a backpack courtesy of Peggy Slappy Properties and the Gladiators.
