Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the 'AA' affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have announced that forwards Aaron Clarke and Tommy Goebel have been returned from loans to AHL teams. Both Clarke and Goebel are expected to be in uniform Friday when the Nailers travel to Johnstown to take on the Chiefs in a 7:05 p.m. contest.
Clarke is returning from his second stint in the AHL this season. He was called up to Binghamton, the AHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators, on Dec. 26. In his time with Binghamton, Clark scored one goal in four games. Binghamton returned Clarke to the Nailers on Jan. 14, however, his return lasted just one game before he was called up to the AHL's Providence Bruins. He had one assist in three games with Providence.
Clarke, one of 10 Nailers to spend time in the AHL in 2008-09, has scored 31 points with the Nailers this season, the fourth best points total on the team. He has scored nine goals with 22 assists and has a plus/minus of +13. Clarke's 22 assists were third best in the ECHL when he was called up to Binghamton on Dec. 26.
Goebel, a fast rookie out of Ohio State, spent the last 14 games of his career with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In that time he racked up eight points (4G, 4A). He had also recorded 27 points (10G, 17A) in 20 games with the Nailers before being called up on Dec. 9. Goebel, 24, was the CCM Tacks ECHL Player of the Month in October after leading the league in scoring during that stretch with seven goals and eight assists.
The Nailers have a 7:05 p.m. game against Johnstown tonight. They then travel to Reading for a 7:05 p.m. game tomorrow and conclude their weekend road trip with a 4:05 p.m. contest against Elmira.
The next Nailers home game is on Saturday, Jan. 31, against the Mississippi Seawolves. Faceoff for the Jan. 31 game has been changed from 7:35 to 8:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling 304-234-GOAL or log on to wheelingnailers.com.
