Royals and U.S. Army Present Fourth Annual 'Battle of the Badges'
January 23, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, the Reading Fire Department, and the Reading Police Department today jointly announced the details for "Battle of the Badges IV" presented by the U.S. Army. The annual hockey double-header will kick off with the fourth annual showdown between the Reading Fire and Police Departments on Sunday, February 15, at 1:45 pm. The ECHL hockey action takes over after that as the Royals join battle against the Trenton Devils with the opening face-off scheduled for 5:05 pm. One ticket gains entry into both games, and a portion of every ticket sold will go to the Battle of the Badges Scholarship Fund established to benefit the children of firefighters and police officers.
As always, both ends of the double-header are expected to be competitive and-how shall we say-spirited affairs. Last year, the Reading Fire Department, which is sponsored by FirstStates Financial Services, hoisted the FirstStates Cup by virtue of their hard fought victory over the Police Department; while the Royals sustained an overtime loss to the Gwinnett Gladiators after Gwinnett had tied things on a goal with just thirty seconds remaining in regulation. The Reading Eagle returns as the Official Media Partner of the Battle of the Badges Celebration. To purchase tickets to the Battle of the Badges IV presented by the U.S. Army, call the Royals offices at (610) 898-PUCK or visit the Royals website, www.royalshockey.com for more information.
The Royals return to action tomorrow night (January 24 @ 7:05 pm) when the Wheeling Nailers visit the Sovereign Center. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
