ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (28-9-2) saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end after suffering a 3-1 loss to the Gwinnett Gladiators (17-17-4) on Friday night at Germain Arena. The loss was the first suffered by the Everblades in the month of January.

After the three-day All-Star layoff, the teams lacked sharpness in a scoreless first period that saw Gwinnett outshoot the Everblades 8-7.

The first goal of the contest didn't come until late in the second period when the Gladiators finally broke the scoreless tie. The pace picked up by both clubs in the middle stanza as both goaltenders kept the opponent off the board. However with 1:56 remaining in the period Travis Fuller banged home a cross ice pass from Jeff Dunne at the right post for his sixth goal of the season.

Gwinnett carried the one-goal lead into the third period and held off the Everblades until Kevin Baker found the back of net at 7:49 to even the score. The play developed behind the Gwinnett net where Ross Carlson from his side worked the puck loose to Mark Lee. Lee then stepped out to the right side before sliding a pass to Baker in the high slot where he one-time a slap shot past Gwinnett net-minder Kevin Regan.

Following the goal, the Everblades attacked with heavy pressure and nearly grabbed the lead, but it was the Gladiators instead who countered with a rush up ice that saw Scott Marchesi pick up a rebound off goaltender Anton Khudobin's glove at the left post and poke it home at 10:44.

Florida's attempt to battle back and tie the game fell short after Mathieu Roy was whistled for a goaltender interference penalty with 1:58 remaining in regulation. On the ensuing power play the Everblades risked a rush up ice but it puck was poked loose by Andy Brandt to Dirk Southern who crossed into the zone and ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle that beat Khudobin low on the stick side at 18:28.

Khudobin saw his personal three-game winning streak come to end after allowing the three goals on 27 shots. Regan earned his first ECHL win after stopping 28 of 29 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-of-5, while Gladiators closed out the game 1-of-6.
