June 7, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL – The Peoria Chiefs jumped to an early lead Tuesday night at O'Brien Field but gave up seven runs in the last three innings to the Lansing Lugnuts, as the Lugnuts defeated the Chiefs 7-1 to earn a split in the four-game series.

A triple from Chiefs second baseman Eric Patterson scored Alberto Garcia and broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 5th inning. The 1-0 lead would not hold up as the Lugnuts scored three times in the top of the 7th to take a 3-1 lead. A throwing error on Chiefs right fielder Bo Flowers allowed Yuber Rodriguez to score on a base hit from Christian Snavely for a 1-1 tie. An RBI single from Eric Nielsen gave Lansing the lead for good.

Lansing threatened to add to their lead in the 8th inning, as the Lugnuts had a runner on third base with one out. A flyout to Drew Larsen turned into an inning-ending double play, as Larsen gunned down pinch runner Aaron Mathews trying to tag from third. The Lugnuts would get their insurance an inning later off of Chiefs reliever Walt Nolen, scoring four times for a 7-1 lead.

Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada pitched well before giving up three runs in the 7th and took the loss to fall to 3-5. He went 6 2/3 innings, giving up three on nine hits. Lansing starter Kyle Yates got a no-decision in five innings of work, but struck out ten while walking just one. Jeremy Harper got his first victory of the season after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
