MWL1 Quad Cities River Bandits

Lemanczyk, Parisi power swing win

June 7, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Swing of the Quad Cities came from behind to earn a series split with West Michigan Tuesday night, winning a 3-1 decision at Fifth Third Ballpark. Mike Parisi lasted eight one-run innings, and Matt Lemanczyk slugged his first home run of the season to power the Swing to victory.

Parisi (4-4) was on his game once again Tuesday night, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out eight. His only blemish was a home run yielded in the third inning. Over his last three starts, the righty has gone 3-0, 1.91 with 16 strikeouts to emerge as one of the Swing's most consistent arms.

Unlike the last two ballgames, it was the Whitecaps scoring first on Tuesday. With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Matt Parrish turned on a 1-0 pitch and launched it down the left field line for a solo home run and a 1-0 lead.

Refusing to roll over, however, the Swing fought back in the eighth inning. Jake Mullinax led off the inning by drawing a walk, and Jarrett Hoffpauir followed with a single. Juan Lucena then bunted the runners to second and third, and West Michigan brought in all-star reliever Anthony Tomey. Matt Lemanczyk wasted little time, though, and greeted Tomey by belting his first pitch out of the ballpark to left-center for a 3-1 advantage.

Mike Sillman, named an all-star earlier in the day, came on to pitch the ninth for Quad Cities (31-27) and struck out the side for his 14th save of the season.

For West Michigan (27-32) Ed Clelland (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings of work. Anthony Tomey was dealt with the blown save, after giving up his first home run of the season to Lemanczyk.

UP NEXT: The Swing return home to John O'Donnell Stadium Wednesday night, where they will take on the Peoria Chiefs. Donnie Smith (0-1, 4.50) will pitch for Quad Cities against the Chiefs' Chris Shaver (2-5, 3.67). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00, and pregame coverage on WKBF AM-1270 will kickoff at 6:45.

PROMOTION: In addition to being a Hooters/97 Rock Beverage Night, Wednesday will also be ‘70s Night as well as Moline Blackhawks Night at John O'Donnell Stadium.

UP NEXT: After hosting Peoria Wednesday night, the South Bend Silver Hawks will head to the Quad Cities for four games. That will be followed by an off day Monday, and two more home games with the Chiefs to round out the first half's home schedule.
