
Four Whitecaps Named Midwest League All Stars

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Midwest League announced today that four West Michigan Whitecaps have been named mid-season All Star team. Righthanded pitchers Jair Jurrjens and Anthony Tomey as well as infielders Wilkin Ramirez and Brent Dlugach were named to the Eastern Division squad, which will play the Western Division All Stars June 21 in Peoria, Illinois at O'Brien Field.
Jurrjens has been the ace of the 'Caps pitching staff this season and currently ranks ninth among league pitchers with a 2.59 ERA. He has a 5-2 record in 11 starts with 45 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 62.2 innings of work this season.
Ramirez has been selected as the starting designated hitter for the Eastern Division. Ramirez is leading the Whitecaps with seven homeruns, 32 RBIs and a .452 slugging percentage. He has 64 hits in 221 at bats, which places him fifth in the league.
Dlugach, the Whitecaps' regular shortstop, was selected as an infielder. He has commited just 12 errors in 260 total chances for a .954 fielding percentage. He places second in the league with 33 double plays this season. He is batting .292 with 23 RBIs and two homeruns.
Righthander Tomey was also selected to the Eastern All Star team as a reliever. Tomey leads the Midwest League in appearances with 27. He has a 3-4 record and two saves to go along with a 2.03 ERA in 26.2 innings of work. Midwest League batters are only hitting .172 against Tomey, which leads the team.
