Burlington Bees News Release

Dayton, OH (June 7, 2005) - The Dayton Dragons (25-33) activated BJ Szymanski from the disabled list today, and he responded with a pair of two-run homers to lead the Dragons to a 7-3 win over the Burlington Bees (27-31) at Fifth Third Field tonight. The Bees and Dragons split this series, but the Bees win the season series 5-3. It is the first season series with for the Bees over the Dragons in Dayton's six-year history.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings, but the Bees broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Irving Falu and Geraldo Valentin led off with a pair of singles to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Mario Lisson hit a ground ball to shortstop and beat out the double play as Falu scored for an RBI. That knocked Dragons' starter Camilo Vazquez out of the ballgame. Brad Morenko took over and got out of the inning.

Bees' starter Danny Christensen pitched five shutout innings for the second straight start. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out four. Yovany Damico took over for the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Drew Anderson tripled down the right field line and scored on Szymanski's first homer of the night to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead.

The score was still 2-1 into the bottom of the eighth. Trevor Lawhorn and Phil Gentry opened with consecutive doubles against Damico to make it 3-1. Rusty Begnaud came on and was greeted by an RBI single to center from Anderson and the score was 4-1. Szymanski followed with a longer homer than the first to right and Jeremiah Piepkorn blasted a ball over everything in center for back-to-back shots to cap the five-run inning and give the Dragons a 7-1 lead.

Morenko (6-1) gave up a leadoff single to Damaso Espino and a two-run homer to Eddie Solis in the top of the ninth inning, but finished the game for the win. It was Solis' fourth homer of the season. The Bees have matched their season high with a homer in three straight games. Damico (0-2) suffered the loss.

The Bees are off tomorrow and are back in action on Thursday night against the Ft. Wayne Wizards at 7:00 at Community Field. RH Luis Cota (2-3, 2.04) will start for the Bees on a Fat Tuesdays Thirsty Thursday. The two teams will play a double-header on Friday night starting at 6:00 to make up for a rainout at Ft. Wayne on April 26th. All games in the series will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting 20 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.
