Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- One day after losing a doubleheader to the Southwest Michigan by a combined score of 29-6, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Devil Rays 10-4. Sebastien Boucher drove in three runs, Rob Johnson homered, and Jason Snyder won his seventh game of the season. The win also put the Rattlers back in first place in the Western Division of the Midwest League.
The teams traded runs in very different fashions in the second inning. John Jaso hit a lead off homer in the top of the inning. Mike Wilson drew a walk, went to second on a throwing error, stole third, and scored on an infield groundout by Brandon Green.
The Rattlers (33-26) took the lead in the bottom of the third. Jack Arroyo drew a walk, stole second, went to third on a throwing error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Boucher.
Southwest Michigan (26-30) evened the game again when Jaso hit his second homer of the night with one out in the fourth.
Then, Wisconsin got a little payback for Southwest Michigan's eleven run sixth inning on Monday night. The Rattlers scored seven runs on five hits to take a 9-2 lead. Yung Chi Chen's two run double started the scoring. Brent Johnson had a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2. Boucher knocked in two runs with a single and he would score later in the inning on a wild pitch. Rob Johnson put a cap on the inning with a long home run to center field.
Snyder walked Jaso with two out in the top of the sixth inning and gave up back-to-back singles. The second single was by Shaun Cumberland and drove in Jaso to make the score 9-3. Ivan Blanco replaced Snyder and got the final out of the inning.
Snyder sprinkled eight hits over 5-2.3 innings allowing three runs and striking out five to run his record to 7-4.
Wilson's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Rattlers a 10-3 lead.
Cibney Bello, who did not retire any of the nine batters he faced in the night game of the doubleheader on Monday, pitched a scoreless eighth inning out of the Rattler bullpen.
The Rays got a run in the ninth inning off Craig James when Francisco Leandro doubled in Chris Nowak. James didn't allow another hit or run as he closed down the Rattler win.
The Rattlers took a one game lead in the first half Western Division race with the victory. The Clinton LumberKings lost 4-2 at Beloit. The third place Swing of the Quad Cities won 3-1 at West Michigan and remain one game behind the Timber Rattlers.
Wisconsin is off on Wednesday. The Rattlers return to action on Thursday night when they host the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Casey Abrams (3-4, 5.13ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Kernels plan on sending Jesse Smith (3-4, 3.79ERA) to the mound. Game time is 7:05pm at Fox Cities Stadium.
