Checkers Announce Third Habitat For Humanity Home
January 15, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC-The Charlotte Checkers have once again partnered with Sutter Home Family Vineyards and Charlotte Habitat for Humanity ReStores to raise money and construct a home for a local Charlotte family.
In 2008, the Checkers became the first ever ECHL team to complete a home building for Habitat for Humanity and a year later helped construct a second dwelling. This year, with help from front office and hockey operations staff as well as sponsors, the team will attempt the feat a third time.
The Checkers and Sutter Home Family Vineyards will begin construction in mid-April with a 12-week plan to complete the home. Both the team and Sutter Home plan to raise the necessary funds needed for the project through various programs.
Sutter Home will advertise the event on the necks of their wine bottles which can be found throughout Charlotte area retail stores. Fans are encouraged to purchase a bottle of wine at their local retail store and mail in their capsule. For every capsule received, $1 will be donated to the overall goal. The mailing address for the donations will be located on the wine neckers.
"We are thrilled to partner for a third year with the Checkers and Habitat for Humanity," said Wendy Nyberg, senior director of marketing for Sutter Home. "Year after year, we are incredibly touched by the impact that this program has on the Charlotte community and we hope this partnership continues far into the future. Supporting a family on such a personal level is heartwarming and very meaningful for all of us at Sutter Home."
Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte is an independent nonprofit organization who works closely with neighborhoods, their associations, and local leaders to create sustainable development projects that focus on the best interest of the entire community. Since 1983, Habitat Charlotte has partnered with over 900 families and built in over 35 neighborhoods throughout the city.
"We are so pleased to work with the Charlotte Checkers and Sutter Homes Family Vineyards for our third consecutive year, and are thankful for their partnership and support of our mission," said Bert Green, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte. "They have made a significant impact in our community each year, and we are excited for them to partner with our Charlotte ReStores on this build."
