Jackals Announce Transactions Heading Into Weekend
January 15, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals announced multiple roster moves before their game in Reading against the Royals on Friday. The Jackals signed forward Bear Trapp, received defenseman Michael Busto on a reassignment by the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) from the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), loaned goaltender Tyler Sims to their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, and added John Sellars as their emergency backup goaltender.
Trapp, who was with the Victoria Salmon Kings during training camp this season, played in six regular season games with the Jackals in 2008-2009 after skating four seasons with Sacred Heart University (NCAA). The Regina, Saskatchewan native recently skated with the Laredo Bucks (CHL). In his first professional game with the Jackals last season, he scored two goals in Johnstown.
Busto, a Burnaby, British Columbia native, was reassigned by Montreal to the Jackals. He was acquired by Montreal this offseason in a trade with the New York Rangers that also sent Scott Gomez and Tom Pyatt to the Canadiens. He skated the last two seasons with the Charlotte Checkers, collecting 27 points in 102 games. Busto played for current Ottawa Senators head coach Cory Clouston with the Kootenay Ice (WHL) from 2004-2007.
With the Jackals this season, Sims is 0-2-0-1 with a.904 save percentage and a 2.57 goals-against average.
Sellars is the Jackals equipment manager and served as the emergency backup goaltender with the Augusta Lynx for one game in November of 2006.
The Jackals play the Royals at the Sovereign Center at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Elmira also plays in Reading on Saturday night, before closing out the weekend in Wheeling against the Nailers on Sunday.
Althought the Jackals are on the road this weekend, that does not mean that First Arena is inactive. The action, in fact, is just getting underway, as X-Treme International Ice Racing presented by Buckley's Automotive and Knappy's Auto Body makes its way back to First Arena Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Last season, X-treme Ice Racing sold out both nights at First Arena, and left three time world-champion rider Anthony "The British Bulldog" Barlow professing his gratitude to Elmira.
"The fans here last year were great and it was a blast racing in front of fans in Elmira. The crowd was really into it, and I can't wait to come back next year," he said.
Next year is now. Barlow and more of the world's top ice racers will bring their action-packed, heart-racing battles to First Arena. There are no brakes in the bikes or quads, which leads to a night of pure adrenaline.
world, and always has its audiences in a frenzy!
Once X-Treme Ice Racing ends, preparations begin for Wine On Ice, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23 over three sessions. Wine On Ice, presented by WENY-TV, is a winter sampling of the Finger Lakes' best in wine, food, shopping and entertainment.
For information on these events or to purchase tickets, visit the First Arena Box Office, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), or log onto Ticketmaster.com.
