Condors crowned by Salmon Kings

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria Salmon Kings (22-15-3-0, 47 points) scored five times in the first period en route to a 6-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (23-10-2-0, 48 points) Friday night at Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. The loss snapped Bakersfield's four-game winning streak.

Victoria opened the scoring at 5:01 with a goal by C Dirk Southern. Over the next 6:14, they stunned the Condors with three more goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead. LW Shawn Weller had the Condors first goal of the night at 12:35, but the Salmon Kings added another before the period was over to lead 5-1 after 20 minutes.

The Condors scored the only goal of the middle frame. F Stephane Goulet boosted his point streak to 10 games by snapping home his 14th of the season at 16:46 on the power play. Weller assisted on the tally, along with D Sasha Pokulok. Shots were 9-9 in the period.

Bakersfield kept battling to chip away at the Victoria advantage in the third, with RW Ryan Menei notching his 7th of the season at 9:28 to make it 5-3. The Condors had 10 of the first 13 shots of the period, and out-shot the Salmon Kings 13-9 in the final stanza. But the early damage sustained for Victoria, who added an empty netter to secure the win.
