TRENTON, NJ-- The Trenton Devils and the Florida Everblades played for the first of five meetings this season. Florida came out strong and scored the first goal when Ernie Hartlieb notched his sixth goal of the season. Trenton came back and tied it off of Dan Eves. The second period with consistent play and the âBlades and Devils exchanged goals. Trenton went up 3-2, when Kyle Kucharski beat Barry Brust to end the second stanza. Kevin Baker scored the lone tally of the third to tie the game and force an overtime session. Neither team scored in the extra period and the game was determined in a shootout. Florida prevailed 4-3 to improve to (19-15-6).
Florida drew first blood at 3:29 when Ernie Harlieb scored his sixth goal of the season. Harlieb recieved the puck from Kevin Baker and beat Trenton net-minder Gerald Coleman. Just over ten-minutes later Trenton got on the board when Dan Eves slipped it into the net. The period ended tied 1-1 with Florida outshooting Trenton 12-8.
With only 1:16 elapsed in the second period defenseman Matt Duffy blasted the puck past Coleman. The lead was short lived and Jeff Prough scored the equalizer, 2-2 and Kyle Kucharski put the Devils up 3-2. Barry Brust kept the Everblades in the game by stopping a flurry of shots during Trentons three power-play opportunities. Brust came up big with a left pad save that was deflected into the stands and moved the puck back to center ice.
The Florida Everblades entered the third stanza down one goal. Mike Bayrack and Jordan Morrison set up Kevin Baker who scored to force the sudden-death overtime. The two teams exchanged penalties in the overtime session, but neither was able to capitalize and the game was decided in a shootout.
The second shootout in as many games saw the Florida Everblades come out victorious. Barry Brust stopped four of five Trenton shooters while teammates Kevin Baker and Ross Carlson both beat Gerald Coleman to secure another win 4-3.
