
Paris, Roberts To Compete In ECHL Skills Competition

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that Drew Paris and Sam Roberts, the Gladiators' two representatives at next week's ECHL All-Star festivities in Ontario, California, will each be competing in two events in the 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Skills Competition presented by Reebok Hockey and brought to you by Toyota and the City of Ontario on Tuesday, January 19th.
Drew Paris, a rookie defenseman and first-time All-Star, will represent the American Conference in the Reebok 8.0.8 Hardest Shot competition with Matt Pierce of Cincinnati, J.C. Sawyer of Toledo and A.J. Thelen of Florida against Brendan Milnamow of Idaho, Nick Mazzolini of Alaska, Sasha Pokulok of Bakersfield and David Walker of Ontario. Paris will also take part in the Ice Town Breakaway Relay along with Nikita Kashirsky of South Carolina, Rick Cleaver of Kalamazoo, amateur Elan Dunaev, Matt Schepke of Charlotte, A.J. Thelen of Florida and Maxime Tanguay of Toledo against Victoria goaltender David Shantz, who is representing the National Conference.
Sam Roberts, also a rookie defenseman and first-time All-Star, will represent the American Conference in the Sher-wood Hockey Puck Control Relay along with Matt Pierce of Cincinnati, and Justin Donati of Elmira, while the National Conference will be represented by Evan Barlow of Idaho, Chris D'Alvise of Stockton and John Lammers of Alaska. Roberts will also take part in the Ice Town Breakaway Relay along with Connor Shields of Johnstown, Matt Pierce of Cincinnati, amateur Taylor Portesi, Jeff Prough of Trenton, Zach Tarkir of South Carolina and Brandon Buck of Florida against Richard Bachman of Idaho, also representing the National Conference.
The ECHL All-Stars will take the ice at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on Tuesday at 7 p.m. PT for the 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Skills Competition presented by Reebok Hockey and brought to you by Toyota and the City of Ontario.
The Ontario Reign and the Citizens Business Bank Arena will host the 18th Annual ECHL All-Star Game presented by Reebok Hockey and brought to you by Toyota and the City of Ontario on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT.
Both events will be broadcast live online free of charge on B2TV.com. The video broadcast will require a high-speed internet connection and a current version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.
There have been 58 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 33 since 2002, when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.
The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Saturday, January 15th vs. Charlotte at 7:05 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
