Capitals Recall Philipp Grubauer from Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Philipp Grubauer from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Grubauer, 22, has appeared in 16 games with Washington this season, posting a 6-4-5 record, a 2.38 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. The Rosenheim, Germany, native earned his first NHL win on Dec. 8 against the New York Rangers and ranks fifth among NHL rookie goaltenders in saves (424) and tied for third in save percentage (min. 300 minutes played).

The 6'1", 190-pound goaltender appeared in 20 games with Hershey this season, posting an 11-8-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.71 GAA and a .909 save percentage. In 48 career AHL games, Grubauer has posted a 26-17-3 record with four shutouts, a 2.45 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
