Portland Pirates 2013-14 Team Awards Presented by Creative Awards Voting Underway

Lewiston, ME- The Portland Pirates announced today that fan voting for the 2013-14 Team Awards, presented by Creative Awards is now underway. Pirates' fans will have the opportunity to choose the Pirates' Unsung Hero, Most Popular Player, and Most Valuable Player. All three awards will be presented during the Team Awards Ceremony following the Pirates game against the St. John's IceCaps on April 19th.

The Unsung Hero Award is determined by a fan vote and is given to the Pirates player who surpassed expectations to become a vital part of the team. This award is often given to a player out of the spotlight but who is vital to the Pirates' team. Last year's winner was Chris Summers, with past winners also including Pirates Hall of Famers Steve Poapst (twice), Kent Hulst, and current Pirates COO Brad Church.

The Most Popular Player Award is awarded to the player that fans view as the Pirates' most well know player. Last year's recipient was Andy Miele, with Pirates Hall of Famers Jason Christie (twice), and Kevin Kaminski also receiving the award during their playing careers. Pirates legend Mel Angelstad twice won the award as well.

The Pirates' Most Valuable Player Award is determined by fan vote and is given to the player deemed the most valuable to the team by the Pirates' fans. Pirates forward and captain Alexandre Bolduc received the award last year, joining current Pirates forward Andy Miele as well as Pirates Hall of Famers Jeff Nelson, Martin Brochu (twice) and Andrew Brunette as recipients of this prestigious award.

Fans will have the opportunity to vote in person at all remaining home games for the month of March, as well as online at portlandpirates.com/team/2014teamawardsvoting Fans can also turn in paper ballots to the Pirates office during normal business hours. Paper ballots are available at tonight's game or at the Pirates office. Team Award voting ends on March 31st, with the award ceremony to take place on April 19th following the Pirates game against the St. John's IceCaps.
