Binghamton Senators News Release

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has acquired defenseman Alex Grant from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Andre Petersson. Grant will be assigned to Ottawa's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Grant, 25, made his NHL debut with the Ducks in a game at San Jose on Nov. 30 and scored his first NHL goal in that contest. In two games with Anaheim this season (his only two career NHL contests to date) he has recorded two points (two goals) and two penalty minutes.

A native of Antigonish, N.S., Grant has appeared in 52 games this season with Anaheim's American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, registering 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) and 46 penalty minutes. His 27 points see him lead Admirals defensemen while ranking fifth among Norfolk players in scoring.

Originally selected in the fourth round, 118th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Grant has recorded 89 points (24 goals, 65 assists) and 220 penalty minutes over 177 career AHL contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Norfolk.

Petersson was selected by Ottawa with the team's first fourth-round pick (109th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft and is in the midst of competing in his third full professional season with the B-Sens. He appeared in one NHL game with Ottawa, on Jan. 21, 2012, in a 2-1 loss at Anaheim.

Binghamton returns to action this Saturday when they host the Utica Comets at 7:05p.m. Tickets for the game are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00a.m. and 5:30p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
