Bulls Rally to Take Down Jacksonville 7-6

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 7-6 on Thursday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park to take a 2-1 lead in the six-game series. The Bulls used a strong offensive performance, connecting on 11 hits to overcome a 2-0 deficit.

The Jumbo Shrimp struck first in the opening inning, using a RF Peyton Burdick RBI double to get on the board. C Nick Fortes would then connect on a sac fly to give Jacksonville a 2-0 lead. The Jumbo Shrimp would hold the Bulls scoreless through two innings as they extended their lead to 3-0 off of a Burdick solo home run in the third inning.

The Bulls would come alive in the bottom of the third with a DH Ryan Boldt RBI single to get the team on the board. 1B Jonathan Aranda would then cut the deficit to one at 3-2 with an RBI single of his own. The team would take the lead in the fourth inning as Boldt used another RBI single to score 2B Miles Mastrobuoni and LF Niko Hulsizer for the 4-3 advantage. The bats remained hot for the team as 3B Isaac Paredes joined the RBI party with a single to put the Bulls up 5-3.

In the fifth inning, Jacksonville would respond with a RBI single from Fortes to trim the deficit to 5-4. The team would get even in the seventh inning on a sac fly RBI from LF Charles Leblanc. The Bulls would again respond in the following at-bat with a C Rene Pinto RBI single for the 6-5 advantage.

The back-and-forth shootout would continue in the eighth inning as Jacksonville scored a game-tying run off of an Erik Gonzalez RBI double. The Bulls would break the tie again in the following at bat with an RBI triple from CF Cal Stevenson.

Dalton Moats got the starting nod on the mound for the Bulls, and went to two innings, surrendering two runs on three hits. Cristofer Ogando came out of the bull pen for relief, throwing two and two thirds of an inning, giving up two runs also on three hits. Christopher Gau and Justin Sterner both went one and two thirds of an inning sacrificing one run off of one hit. Colin Poche threw one inning, holding Jacksonville scoreless and ringing up three strikeouts. Sterner (1-0, 5.40) gets credit for the win in his debut, Poche credited with the save.

The Bulls are scheduled to be back at the DBAP on Friday for game four against Jacksonville. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. The Jumbo Shrimp are scheduled to start RHP Jordan Holloway (0-1,9.00) on the mound, what the Bulls starter is still to be determined.
